Even though the temperature doesn't seem to be dropping much. Summer is coming to an end. The dreaded school supplies have been on the shelves for weeks. College campuses are readying themselves for students and internships are winding down. There can be no more denial. Here are some of the thoughts I've had in the last week as I realized returning to school was so close and my internship was ending.
1. How is it already the middle of August, last I checked it was the 4th of July!?!
Without any landmark holiday's in between July fourth and Labor day I'm not sure how I'm supposed to keep track of the date. We need to add a holiday just for my sake. We can just call it a Midsummer Bank Holiday. If I had any holiday making power this would definitely be a thing.
2. There are 9 days until school starts and I don't know what I am going to pack at all.
Packing is so difficult and stressful. I don't know how, but I always manage to forget something relatively important. Making lists has always helped me but there's only so much that can fit in a suitcase or two.
3. I get to sleep in soon!!
That is... until about 7:30 or 8 AM when my body tells me that it doesn't understand why I'm still trying to sleep when it should have been awake 3 hours ago. And...
4. I don't have to be super lame and go to bed by 9:30 or 10 PM every weeknight anymore.
Getting up at 5:10 AM and working 10 hour days did not make it easy to stay up later than 10. I have to get used to staying up doing homework until 2 in the morning and waking up for an 8 AM at 7:40 so staying up later should start now?
5. I'm actually going to miss this place.
Although being an adult and working a job everyday is hard, I know that I have gained so much new knowledge. The tough work we did came along with a lot of laughter (due to ridiculous adventures) and it made it all worth it. I have many new friends and connections from my internship and I'm so glad I chose to work there in the end.
6. I'm also really going to miss my mom's cooking again.
Making your own meals (at a lower budget) is so difficult and nothing I make is ever as good as when Mom makes it.
7. I can't wait to see my friends back at school!
Well, I guess that won't be until after Thanksgiving for me, but I'm still super pumped that I'm closer to seeing them all.
In spite of the looming worries about going back to school, I know that everything will fall into place as it should. It always does. For me, summer has always been a time to relax until recent years when I have to work the entire summer. I'm honestly not sure how I'm going to be able to handle a full time job, yet. Soon enough the school stress will come barreling back into my life (but not without the fun of college). But for the next week I will be able to sit back and enjoy the very end of summer.
