With everything going on after the tragedy in Las Vegas, with 58 people killed and more than 500 people injured, it is normal to be feeling a little blue. Also with the seasons changing and the lack of sunlight, depression can start taking a toll people. Instead of staying inside, sleeping more, and finding yourself lacking motivation, do these six things instead, in order to brighten your mood.
1. Pick up a new hobby
Learning new things will distract you from bad habits that could make your depression worse, like sleeping more, sitting around, slacking on chores, etc. Try picking up an instrument, volunteer at a local shelter, try knitting scarves for the cold weather, or draw.
2. Read a book
Reading a book does wonders for their readers. It teleports readers to another dimension, it gives them an opportunity to be someone else for a little while.
3. Start working out
I know most of you will skip past this... but, working out does tremendous things for mental stability. Coming from the first point of view, working out has made me feel less depressed and gives me more self-confidence! If you aren't into going to the gym, maybe look at taking a class of some sort or just try going for a run.
4. Embrace the weather
Get up off that couch, put on your Uggs, and get outside! The trees colors are changing, it is an absolutely beautiful sight, and being outside and being active could help with you feeling sad. Some places you could go is a pumpkin patch, go on a hayride, go apple picking. The fall is a tremendous time, embrace it aside from the sadness.
5. Have a friend date
Invite some of your friends over and drink some apple cider! Friends always help you when you're feeling down. When you're feeling sad, you want to automatically separate yourself from your friends and family which is not good for mental health. Make sure to maintain solid relationships with friends, it will make you feel better.
6. Clean!
When you are feeling sad, you get lazy and you leave dishes in the sink for too long, you skip a shower, or you just throw your clothes on the floor to pick up "later." Instead of letting things get (too) messy, get up and clean. Having a clean home leads to a clean mind, and it always makes me feel better to pick things up around my apartment.
Don't let the temperature going down get you down, pick yourself up and try to distract yourself from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Mental health is important, and so are you. Make sure to appreciate this beautiful weather before it gets too cold to appreciate.
