Spring break. A time where students get about a week off of school to spend at their leisure. Planning the perfect spring break trip is no walk in the park though. So instead of hopping on the band wagon and heading to a beach for your spring break trip, take a look at these six other options and live it up.
1. Service Project
Service projects are a fantastic way to not only travel, but make a difference in the world. It could be in your own country or abroad, but there's always volunteering to be done, and people who would be grateful for it. Most schools have set up alternative spring breaks that are almost always service based.
2. Visit National Parks
There are 58 National Parks currently in the United States, go explore! National Parks offer a plethora of things to do, all for little to no money! Camping, hiking, and wildlife are only some things they offer. Conservation is also a huge aspect of National Parks because one of their main goals is to protect biodiversity within the parks, therefore, they take endangered species very seriously.
3. Roadtrip
Get in the car, grab some friends, fill up the tank, and go! Choose a vague direction and see where it takes you. Try to do some digging to see if local towns of hostels you could stay in, which are always an interesting and memorable experience in of itself.
4. Make a reading list
Sometimes travel is just not an option, but most places do have public libraries. Make a killer reading list, and see how many you can get through in those 9ish days of spring break. Make it a mixture of classics and moderns, and if you're especially daring, throw in some classic poetry.
5. Visit a cool city
Obviously since the goal is to avoid typical spring break locations, start thinking outside the box. New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Nashville, NYC. All awesome cities to travel to that aren't sandy beaches on the ocean.
6. CAMP
Camping is one of the best or worst times you could have for spring break. Make sure you check the weather before you go, unless you don't care about getting a possibly flooded tent resulting in you forcing your entire family to go home(maybe that was just me?)
Don't get me wrong, beaches are wicked cool, but so been there done that. Aren't we in this world to explore and make use of the time we're given? See where your imagination can bring you this spring break.
