Things haven't always been easy, but they don't have to be hard either.
1. Not everyone will understand what you're going through.
Your friends might not know how to react if your parents are splitting up. It's hard, but sometimes it's necessary and it isn't something everyone can accept right away. Don't stress because your friends (or even family) aren't as upset as you are. They want the best for you even if it doesn't seem like it.
2. Not all situations are the same.
Just because your friend(s) parents are divorced, doesn't mean you will go through the same things they did. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse. You can't go through life comparing your situation to everyone else's.
3. It's okay to be sad and it's okay to get over it.
You'll be sad for awhile and that's okay! Depending on how old you are/were, you might not understand what's really going on. It's important to not bottle up your feelings; whether you're talking to a friend, your parents, a counselor, or writing in a journal, as long as you get your feelings out you'll be okay.
It's also important to know you don't have to be sad forever. Change is hard to accept but when you do, you'll realize that maybe things are better now and although it isn't the same, it's not as bad as you thought.
4. Sometimes you're lucky enough to get a new family.
There's nothing better than gaining new family members throughout your life, blood-related or not. It doesn't always work out very well, but in my case it did and I've been very blessed with an extra family in my life.
5. You become more critical.

6. Don't blame yourself.
Relationships are weird and sometimes it takes years to realize that you're not meant to be with someone. If your parents split up after you were born, it probably wasn't your fault. Sometimes people grow apart, and that's okay. Always remember not to put the blame on yourself.
