1. It takes two.
Just as in any relationship it takes two to make a relationship work. This is especially important in a long distance relationship because it doesn't work if it's just one person trying to make it worth while.
2. Finding time for one another can be difficult.
This is the harsh reality. Especially if the one you love is constantly on the go or even in a different time zone. Ten at night where they are, might be 12 p.m. where you are. Between what you're doing and what your significant other is doing there isn't always time for each other. That's why long-distance relationships are work. You have to make time for the one you love and possibly sacrifice something you love, or maybe even sleep, to make it work. It's not always easy.
3. Communication is key.
This is important in every relationship but especially in a long-distant relationship because you don't get to see the person you love everyday. Phone calls and FaceTime are so important because texting just isn't enough. Hearing someone's voice and seeing their face certainly helps the distance feel so much smaller. Letting someone know how you really feel with raw emotion is also very important. If you are have a bad day, then you tell them you are having a bad day. It may seem very minuscule in your eyes but sometimes the person you love is just the person you need to make your day better.
4. It's tough.
As you already may know, long-distance relationships are no picnic. It's honestly the toughest thing I have had to deal with in my 6-year relationship. At the end of the day when you want to tell your best-friend how your day was, good or bad, they aren't there. Small victories like birthday parties and family events they miss because they are so far away and I'm here to be honest with you, it sucks.
5. Distance really does make the heart grow stronger.
It's not all bad. When two people really care about one another, they will always find a way to make it work. No matter how difficult it may be. If this is the silly thing that life throws in your way... You make the best of it. When you are apart from your significant other you realize all the little things that you missed and appreciated about that person.
6. They are your worst goodbye's but the BEST hello's.
It is the worst feeling to say goodbye to the person you love especially when you don't know the next time that you will see them. But man, let me tell you... The hello's that you have when they come home make you forget all the lost time. It makes you feel like they were never gone.
