Leaving your family for college is hard no matter how old you are, how many times you've done it, and no matter how far away you go, until you actually get to college and then you're like "hey, being on my own is pretty rad." Without fail, nine months goes by way too fast and even though you're glad to finally be done with school for the summer, you aren't as excited to move back home, for these reasons:
1. You have to readjust to living with 6 other people instead of just your roommate.
2. Forget about privacy...just forget that word even exists.
Between going back to sharing a room with your sister, and the never ending barging in not only your room, but also the bathroom, it's easy to forget what a little bit a privacy feels like.
3. There is literally no space for your stuff...anywhere.
It's like your house shrunk when you moved out because moving back in is hell. There's no room for all of your stuff because your sister's closet has expanded and instead of having three dresser drawer a person, you've been demoted to one drawer. It'd be easier to live out of your suitcases for the next three months.
4. Everyone wants to know about how school went for you.
There's only so many times I can say "oh school was great," before that fake smile I have plastered on my face starts to wear off and my eyes start to twitch a little. You don't really want to know how my year went, and I don't want to talk about how little sleep I got, my maniacal professors, or the lengths I went through to get good grades. Just don't ask.
5. You'll miss the freedom of being able to just up and leave.
Sure, it's common courtesy to tell your mother where you're going at 3 in the morning, but the judgement that she gives you when you tell her you're craving a burrito and you need it right this instant is so uncalled for. At school, you don't have to tell anyone where you're going because you're only accountable for yourself. When you come home from school, your parents want to know where you're going, who you're going with, when you'll be back, and if you remembered a jacket. I usually don't remember a jacket and I almost 100% of the time need one, but I'm not going to tell my mom that.
6. At the end of the day, you remember how blessed you are with such a huge, annoying family and you wouldn't have it any other way.
Family is family. They'll always have your back no matter what. Moving away to college helps you realize that even though you like being on your own, nothing beats being able to come home to your family
