6 Reasons Why I Love My Roommate

Going off to college, you don't really know what to expect. You know what the campus looks like, how far everything is, and where to get the best food. However, if you've never shared a room before or lived on your own, dorm living can be kinda scary since you've never actually done it before. Well, if you're lucky like me, your new roommate will make all of this a little bit easier.

1. She respects my space.

I've never shared a room with anybody before in my life, besides the occasional sleepovers. I didn't really know what I was in for besides that I had to share half of my shoe box of a room with someone I don't really know. Luckily enough, she was on the same boat and we discussed boundaries and she totally respects my space! There's nothing else more awkward than fighting with your new roommate the first week because they're rooting through your things.

2. We come from completely different backgrounds.

My roommate and I are not from the same state, and we're not from the same kind of towns. Everything in our home lives is kind of the opposite of each other and I think that's what makes us so close now. We respect the differences and they make us that much better of friends.

3. We're always laughing.

No matter what one of us are going through, we can always count on the other for a good laugh. There's nothing like a day of being upset over a boy and then coming back to your room just to hear dumb jokes your roommate thought of to make you laugh. It really is something amazing to be able to genuinely laugh at someone's really dumb, dry jokes.

4. We're always contrasting each other.

In a good way! When she's being a dreamer, I have to be her realist and vice versa. We make a good pair because we always keep each other balanced and help each other keep our heads on straight. If it weren't for her, I probably would've been lost in space with all my dreams.

5. She never lets me eat alone.

Whether in the dorm or out to eat, I can always count on her to eat with me, or at least tell me it's totally okay to eat, even if it is 1 a.m. on a Tuesday. Now that is a true friend.

6. She is my absolute best friend.

There is nothing scarier than going off to college to have a roommate you don't really know. Fortunately, I got lucky and my roommate turned out to be my best friend. Whenever I need to pour my heart out or just cry in her bed cuddling with her, I can always count on her to be there for me. She's literally everything good I could ask for in a friend and there's no one else I'd rather share my shoe box with!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
