6 Reasons Why College Students Hate Moving Back In With Their Parents

Summertime is finally here, and for most college students, it is a time to go back home and figure out what you will be doing for the next few months. There are internships, summer jobs, summer classes, but most importantly, moving back home with your parents. The transition from moving out of your dorm or apartment and moving back home is the hardest thing to do! To our parents, we are still their babies, and because of that, they will never understand why we hate moving back in after being away for so long.

1. Privacy.

You are no longer independent when you step into your parents’ home. We've all gotten the “as long as you live under my roof you abide by my rules” speech. They do not see you as the adult you have really become. That feeling of being completely free is out the window, and now you have to go back to the same household rules. And do not even think that you are going to leave the house without them knowing who you will be with, where you are going, and how long you will be there.

2. Sharing the bathroom.

This one is especially for my ladies. Now, I know that if you stay in a dorm, you are most likely sharing a bathroom, but at least there are enough showers and mirrors so everyone can get ready at a decent time. Trying to beat my brother to the bathroom is the worst thing a college girl can ever experience!

3. Getting home at a decent hour.

I guess they do not understand that the party does not get live until midnight.

4. Having to watch siblings.

Babysitting duties are extremely played out, especially when you already made plans to hang out with your friends. And as soon as you tell your parents that you already have plans, you are now being selfish and inconsiderate of your parents for wanting to get a break, and everything else associated with being a horrible child. Shall I say more?

5. Washing the dishes.

Am I the only one who hates to hear these words come out of my mother’s mouth? Parents find the most inopportune time to tell you to wash the dishes. It is usually on the nights that you have already committed to relaxing. You are probably not even the one who left all of the dishes in the sink in the first place. But you wash them just to keep the peace.

6. Someone eating your food.

I know we have all experienced this one. In school, you are so used to having everything to yourself. The worst thing is to wake up one morning craving that Subway sandwich you left in the refrigerator last night just to find that your dad ate it and he did not even ask you first.

After missing your family so much when you are away, it is refreshing to go home. But I think we can all agree that after a few weeks we are ready to get back to our freedom and go back to school!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
