6 Reasons Big Sisters Are The Best
Liz Roger's Photography

This one’s for all the big sisters out there. Whether you’re the oldest or the middle sister, we younger siblings appreciate you more than you know!

1. You get to “share” clothes with them.

If you’re close enough in size to your big sister, you know how this goes. You see their closet as a free clothing store. Sometimes you don’t even realize you’re wearing something that’s theirs, and you know how that goes… “Are you wearing my shirt?!” We appreciate you for this, trust me, we really do! We know you may get annoyed but there’s nothing we love more than wearing your clothes.

2. They’re the best at giving advice.

Big sisters go through things before we younger siblings do, which is a blessing. This is why they give the best advice because they’ve already been through things that we’re going through. I don’t know how we can thank them enough for all of the great advice they give, and for basically being the guinea pig. Whether you’re going through your first breakup, or you’re crushing super hard on someone, your big sister is sure to have the best advice for you.

3. They’re always there when you need a pick-me-up.

Big sisters will always be there for you no matter what. If you’re feeling down, you can run to your big sister and she will know just how to make you feel better. Some big sisters know how to get you laughing, and some big sisters know how to calm you down when you need it. You can always count on your big sis to be there for a hug and a pair of listening ears.

4. They still love you, even after you've gotten into a fight.

So you and your big sister just got into a fight. But guess what? That's okay because 10 minutes later you're sharing funny pictures with each other and making each other laugh. Everything is okay again! Your big sister is always super understanding, and knows that arguments happen, but she still loves you in the end! We younger siblings may annoy our big sister sometimes, but we know they really love us, so it makes up for it.

5. Your many, many inside jokes you have with them!

The beauty of a big sister is that you have someone to joke around with 24/7. If you were lucky enough to grow up with your big sister close to your age, you got to spend a lot of time with them which means you’ve created a lot of inside jokes! From making fun of the crazy things your mom does, to quoting your favorite movies with them out of the blue, big sisters are always sure to make you laugh. The best thing about them is that you most likely have the same humor. There’s nothing better than laughing until your stomach hurts and you feel like you should have abs from laughing so hard! Thank you for the laughter, big sisters!

6. They’re your built in best friend.

Your big sister is your built in best friend! You know she’s always going to be there for you when you feel alone. When you get into a fight with your friends, your big sister is going to be there for you, which is the best feeling in the world. Mad at your mom and dad? Your big sister will understand and she’ll listen to you. Need a self-esteem boost? Your big sister’s got ya! She may even go a little overboard sometimes, but that’s what we love about ‘em. They’re always going to be your friend, no matter what.

Thank you to all the big sisters out there! I don’t know what we’d do without you. Thank you for being truly amazing human beings and shaping us younger siblings into who we are today.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
