Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun have taken the musical world by storm. Starting out in 2009, the duo called Twenty One Pilots formed in Columbus, OH. They released multiple tracks on SoundCloud gaining fans little by little. Then they released a self-titled album, "Twenty One Pilots". I discovered this band in 2011 when they released their album "Regional at Best". I completely fell in love when I heard the song "Forest" (if you have never heard this song, I highly recommend looking it up). Then in 2012, they released their best known album, "Vessel". This album had songs such as "Car Radio", "House of Gold" and "Trees" (all greats once again). Then in 2015, their newest album was debuted, "Blurryface". If you know who they are, it is probably because of the hits from this album on the radio, "Stressed Out" and "Tear in My Heart". But, what’s so great about this duo? Ill give you six reasons to be apart of the Clique.
1. First off, look at them.
Tyler and Josh are total babes. Even with red hair and eyelashes, skeleton jackets and black paint (or shirtless). They even have some pretty sick tattoos. Both of them have an "X" tattoo that symbolizes their dedication to their hometown fans. They received these tattoos on stage during a hometown concert in 2013.
2. They put on a hella good show.
I’ve been to two of their shows (third one coming up in August!!) and I was blown away both times. They interact with the crowd in unexplainable ways. They have the most incredible live sound I have ever heard. They make you feel so wanted and loved. They sing to you and for you. You will always leave their shows pumped and wanting so much more. When you go to one of their shows, you connect with everyone there. I have made so many different friends at shows. We sing together and cheer together. It’s always an amazing experience when you can share something you love so much with a complete stranger who loves the same thing.
3. They are family oriented.
These guys are all about family. If you check out their Twitter accounts, they always have funny things to say about each other (because bandmates are family right?) and about their actual families. I mean, they wrote a song about buying a house of gold for their moms!! Heart = melted. They even featured both of their families in their music video for the song "Stressed Out".
4. They are super loyal.
They are the most loyal band I know. They always go back to their hometown, Columbus, OH and put on a sold out show for the people that made them who they are today. It’s always incredible. Check it out on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scmZ2FkLhf8. They also post art that their fans have made on their social media. It’s called “Clique Art”. Most of it is amazing and the boys are more and more appreciative after every post.
5. Their outfits are on point.
They show up in skeleton jackets, ski masks, and even a Komodo sometimes. If you caught the MTV music awards in 2014, they performed their hit song "Car Radio". If you’ve seen the music video, you know how intense it gets when the beat drops, but you also know the masks that Tyler wears. The entire crowd had these on and it blew up the internet! Their new outfits for "Blurryface" have gotten even more dark and daring. Josh, who normally dyes his hair a different color for almost every show, has stuck to a bright red that matches the eyelashes, eyeliner, and red paint he wears around his eyes. Tyler has taken a different approach wearing black paint on his neck, hands, and around his eyes. You might think these are odd outfit choices, but with a recent interview with Josh he explains that the makeup they now where is because of their insecurity. He said, "So there’s black on my hands to represent that. The live show is a moment where that character is realized and confronted and hopefully conquered. As the show goes on, the make-up starts to wear away". Even more reason to love them.
6. Their songs are real.
I don’t have enough words to explain how amazing the lyrics that these guys write are. The lyrics are real; they hold nothing back. They talk about how they know that it is hard to live in this world and that there are struggles that most of us face daily, but they want you to know that they feel the same way. They let you know that you are wanted in this world and you are needed. When you listen and connect with this music you are becoming apart of something incredible. Sometimes I tend to find myself scrolling through their Tumblr for hours just reading their lyrics. Being apart of the Clique has changed my life, their music has changed my life and can change yours too.
