6 Reasons To Just Go Home This Weekend

Why spending the weekend in your hometown is actually a pretty good idea.

When given the option of partying all weekend at your university or traveling to your boring old hometown, of course, any right-minded college kid would choose partying. I mean, what's better than a good ole crawfish boil on a Saturday afternoon in Dixie? Literally nothing. However, there are some pretty good benefits when we decide to take a break from the steady flow of natty light and venture home for a couple of days.

1. Pets

This is a given. We all have dogs or cats or some sort of furry friend who sniffs around looking for us when we go away to school. What's not to love about walking in the front door of your house to be tackled by none other than your BFF, Cosmo, the yellow lab?

2. Free Food

Open the refrigerator. The freezer. The pantry. Free food for all and for all a good meal! Dining halls been getting you down? Too much fried Friday? Is that even possible? Who knows, have some more free food while you think about it.

3. Television

This may only apply to a few of you collegiate's out there. I don't know about you, but I don't have a TV in my dorm and I certainly don't watch the news on the reg. It's kind of nice to sit on the couch with your dad in the morning, drink some coffee, and discover what you've been missing out on all this time. For those who haven't seen the news recently, I 10/10 highly recommend. You will be shocked. That is some live action right there.

4. Clean Sheets

Listen, I know you lazy people don't change your sheets, and it is really freakin' gross. The topic of sheet-changing habits is for another discussion. BUT you can always count on your mom to make sure you have a nice, clean, bed to snuggle up in at night. Shout out to all the moms, nannies, maids, various caretakers, and soccer dads out there. You guys rock.

5. Siblings

Say you have a younger brother or sister who's just chillin' in high school, watching you—their greatest influence—have the time of your life somewhere far, far away. Maybe you need to brag to someone a little bit. Maybe some trash talk to soothe the soul. Or maybe you just need someone to hang out with for the weekend. Little bro has got you covered.

6. The Constant Love and Support (Wallets) of Your Dear Mother and Father

Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom. You're about to set off on the long journey back to T-Town on Sunday afternoon. Dad whips out the leather tri-fold which you hold so dearly in your heart. Your entire existence could revolve around that glorious little thing. Or maybe you could just really use some extra cash. This is the icing on the cake, the cherry on top, if you will, of a long, relaxing weekend at home.

So maybe you'll decide to go on home sometime in the near future. Relax, have a couple of home-cooked meals, hang out with your family. It's nice to take a break every once in a while. Then when the weekend comes to a close and you can't miss that 10am on Monday anymore because you've already used up all of your absences for the semester, meander on back to the greatest school in the country and thank the Lord above for blessing you so. And maybe change your sheets or something.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
