My last week of winter break was spent sitting on the couch with my father, day after day, binge-watching FX’s "It Always Sunny in Philadelphia." I am both sad and very proud to admit, that we blew through 6 seasons in about 3 days. We finished the entire show — 10 seasons — in a week while occasionally having a life outside of the house and only staying up until about 1 a.m. each night. Now that I am writing it, it sounds pretty sad, but this show made it so worth it and here’s why:
1. Short episodes.
You really don’t realize how many episodes you’re watching because they are so short. When they were normally on FX each episode ran for a half hour so while binge-watching they are about 20 minutes long. So with Netflix automatically playing the next episode, you can watch three episodes in just over an hour.
2. Short seasons.
Each season of this show is at most 13 episodes. You can make it through a season in about 5 hours. It feels like absolutely nothing to get through a season. You start it and before you know it, you’re through a whole season and it feels like no time has gone by.
3. The plot doesn’t matter.
Nothing in this show actually matters. The episodes don’t really connect and if you miss an episode or a few scenes it doesn’t really matter. You can fall asleep mid-episode and not have to go back and rewatch it or you can work on other things while watching and not have to pause the show every time you leave the room.
4. It's hysterical.
This show will never ever give you the feels. It is not the show that makes you emotional or that makes you cry, well you will cry from laughter. There is never an episode that I don’t miss a joke because I’m laughing too hard at the last joke.
5. The titles.
The episodes have the best titles. “The Gang Breaks Dee” “The Gang Solves The Gas Crisis” “Mac Bangs Dennis’ Mom” “Sweet Dee’s Dating A Retarded Person” "Charlie Goes America All Over Their Asses" or my favorite title of all the first episode “The Gang Gets Racist.” The titles make you excited for every episode and just prepares you for the hilarity ahead.
6. The gang.
The people in this show are the worst people on the planet. They make you laugh, make you cry, make you question humanity, and make you feel a whole lot better about yourself. You cannot help but want to watch more of them no matter how much they make you cringe.
So grab your remote, some junk food, a blanket and binge-watch away. You’ll thank me later.
