Though I may be a little biased since I am from Westchester, NY; I truly believe that the best place to spend the holidays is in New York City. As amazing as New Orleans is, I never truly feel in the holiday spirit while at school. Due to the warm weather it is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. Here are the 6 most important reasons why I believe that New York City is the best place to spend the holidays.
1: The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Ever since I can remember I have been waking up early on Thanksgiving day to watch the parade in its entirety. It is the perfect way to kick start the holiday festivities! The parade is one of my favorite NYC traditions and something that people of all ages love to see.
2: 5th Avenue Holiday Windows
As if window shopping at stores that I could never afford wasn't already one of my favorite activities all year long; the 5th Avenue holiday windows just make window shopping that much better. These beautiful windows are designed specifically to tell a holiday story to the those who walk past them. They will automatically put you in the holiday spirit! The windows ooze elegance and so much beauty that I wish they were around all year long.
3: The Rockefeller Christmas Tree
Standing around 60 feet tall, this magnificent and extravagant christmas tree located in the center of The Rock attracts visitors from any race, religion, or creed. Though it is rather hard to get close to the tree itself due to all the other eager and aggressive tourists trying to take their pictures, even seeing it from a far gives you the chills.
4: The Rockettes
The Rockettes are some of the most flexible, tall, beautiful dancers that I have ever seen. People from all over the globe come into NYC for a chance to watch them perform. The performance is completely centered around Christmas and NYC which is exactly the reason it is so important to the holiday season.
5: SNOW!
As much as I prefer warm weather to the cold, being in a city without snow during the holidays is a completely different experience. The warm weather makes you almost forget that it is the middle of November and Christmas is just around the corner. The first snow in NYC is always so magical. Combined with all the beautiful Christmas lights surrounding the city, the snow makes everything look so much more serene and festive.
6: Ice Skating in Central Park
Though probably the coldest holiday activity, ice skating in Central Park is something people of all ages can enjoy. The beautiful ice rink located in the heart of Central Park helps to remind everyone about the joy and fun in life that the holidays bring. It is a great way to bond with family and friends!
