Classes have started, everyone is back at school and things are basically back in full swing. While I couldn't be more excited about being back with my friends and seeing what's to come in this academic year, I can't help but being upset about summer coming to an end. Especially as someone who loves the warm weather, I'm not looking forward to the harsh, upstate New York winter. Here are some of the reasons why I'll miss summer.
1. The sun.
There is something about the sun shining in the blue sky and feeling the heat on your skin as a warm breeze blows in your hair that just puts you in a good mood. The nice weather is also very motivational to get outside and get moving. Plus, there's nothing greater and more relaxing than laying outside by the pool.
2. Ice cream.
There is no rule saying that you can't eat ice cream in the winter but when the weather is cold, you really don't need anything else making you feel colder. In summer, on the other hand, ice cream is refreshing and delicious. I'll definitely miss having a nice bowl of ice cream after dinner (or at any time of the day).
3. Staying outdoors.
Hanging out outside is one of the most relaxing and therapeutic things. Whether that means going on a hike, or sitting on a bench reading a book, enjoying the outdoors is wonderful in the summer. There are also a lot of sports that can be played outside and are great for staying active and socializing.
4. Sunsets.
One thing I love about the summer is the spectacular skies. As soon as the sun starts setting, pinks, blues and purples paint the sky creating breathtaking views. Admiring the spectacle while taking pictures is not only fascinating, but also very calming.
5. Swimming.
Going to the pool is one of the most fun summer activities. Not only is it a great to hang out with friends, but it's also a great workout. It also feels great in the high temperatures.
6. Summertime is relaxing.
At least for the most part. Summer is a time to cut loose and break free from responsibilities and stress. Save the worry for the fall.
There are obviously many more reasons why I'll miss summer and why I'm not looking forward to the wintertime, though there are still things to look forward to. Christmas is a great example but, above all, going back to school and getting back to doing what we love.
