Today, in my morning half-hearted scroll through Facebook, something caught my eye. It was an article titled “Study Finds Majority of Americans Would Rather Die of E. coli Than Not Eat at Chipotle.” Low and behold after clicking the link author, Phil Neutro explains the study done by the University of Colorado. The study shows the majority of Americans are “unfazed by the recent E. coli outbreak.” Dr. Wheats, the sociologist who conducted this study, says “’What we are seeing here is a ‘last meal’ type of phenomenon, in which the majority of the U.S. populous finds the taste and flavor of Chipotle burritos and bowls so delicious, that they would literally accept death’s embrace than to forgo the scrumptious Mexican food.’”
After reading this article, I thought back to the last time I had Chipotle. Let me tell you, it was far too long ago. Every love story has it’s beginning, those moments in the relationship that you will never forget. I remember back to when I first came to CPP and we had orientation. I remember eating at the Qdoba on campus and my friend Raymond says, “this is ok, but it’s no Chipotle.” At the time I thought nothing of it. The second week into school I was getting lost in my car and somehow found my way into the Walnut food area. It was then that I saw it. On my way to In n Out something clicked in my heart and said “NO!”
I found myself at the door of Chipotle.
This is where our love story began.
It was love at first sight

- The Atmosphere
You walk in to this large silvery metal box. The industrial walls and the abstract are makes it feel so futuristic but somehow it still feels like home. People are happy. People are laughing. It is all smiles at Chipotle
2. Chipotle cares
Once they discovered their carnitas were being bought from a company who horribly mistreated animals, they stopped buying the meat from them. Although, many were upset because carnitas are the best, they showed true integrity with their sacrifice. That being said….
3. The Carnitas
If you don’t get the carnitas at Chipotle, then you are doing it wrong, my friend. You are missing out. They are hot and shredded, non-overwhelming but supplemental amount of meat to compliment the rest of your bowl. They are what’s missing from your life. The carnitas are for sure the way to go. Take if from a Chipotle-native.
4. Getting all 3 of the salsas
Each salsa provides a different aspect to the bowl. The pico de gallo adds lovely chunks of tomatos, the medium with a little kick and then the hottest salsa to really add that Mexican spice.
5. They have Mr. Pibb
No, it’s not Root Beer. No, it is not basically Dr. Pepper. It is Mr. Pibb. The glorious and most underrated soda there is. It’s ok if you don’t get it… Chipotle understands me!
6. ALWAYS SPLURGE FOR THE GUACAMOLE
When I go to Chipotle, I can be anything. And I choose to be a queen. Why yes, I will pay a dollar extra for that guacamole, peasant (snaps fingers) (Chipotle worker slaves to give her the biggest heaping pile of guacamole) While you’re at it, get me crown of guacamole. That’s the dream right there.
All of these reasons explain my love for their cuisine and company; however, why I truly love this completely americanized-mexican food, is for the feeling. Being in love is more than just the aesthetics. It is how they make you feel when are with them. It’s not a feeling you ever want to let go.
So I guess you could say Chipotle is my life. I guess you could say Chipotle is everyone’s lives considering we trust Chipotle to not kill each of us from E. coli. That’s what true love is all about. It’s about being afraid, but also taking a chance because you may find something truly special and magical. Love is about the unknown. It’s about taking that leap of faith knowing that the other person could hurt you and sometimes the pain may even feel like dying. Or in this case, it would be dying. Take this chance though. Trust in your heart and may it lead you to
Chipotle. See you there!
