After I decided that I wanted to be a communication major, there was no turning back. At first, I didn't know what to expect, but I thought it couldn't be that hard. It's just communicating, right? I can definitely tell you that it is so much more than just communicating, and that is one of the many reasons I love being a communication major. Being a communication major is one of the best decisions I have ever made and here are six more reasons why I love my major.

1. The endless opportunities

There are so many different positions that come with having a major in communication. I can work in television, film, journalism, radio, advertising and just about anything else! Many businesses and organizations look for individuals with strong communication skills, so we have a leg up on our competition.

2. The lack of homework

Yes you read that correctly. As a communication major, I rarely have homework. I don't know how many times I've wanted to do something with my friends, but they couldn't because they had homework. It's nice to have a lot less stress than some of my engineering or medical friends who always seem to be elbows-deep in projects and homework. However, just because I don't have a lot of homework, it doesn't mean it isn't hard. You try writing a media analysis or an analysis of a news organization in terms of Agenda-Setting and Exemplification Theory, then tell me how easy my major is.

3. The professors

I can honestly say that the communication department has the best professors. Every single professor I have had is very personable and actually gets to know us. One of my professors even takes the time to learn everyone's name in a 60-student class! I feel extremely comfortable going to their office hours, and they are always more than willing to help with whatever I need. I've heard friends say that their professors weren't very helpful or understanding when they've gone to talk to them, so I'm glad I don't have to worry about that.

4. The ability to be creative

Within my major, there are so many opportunities to be creative. I can be a copywriter and come up with catchy slogans for different companies. I can work with advertisements to create the next Nike or Coca-Cola ad. While others are stuck working with numbers and facts, I'll be using my imagination to come up with something as famous as the puppy-monkey-baby commercial.

5. Social media is my job

While everyone else is worried about procrastination because of their social media accounts, I get payed to be on mine. I have classes that specifically focus on social media, and we even have "tech breaks" that allow social media use during class. I use Twitter in one of my classes as way to interact with fellow classmates. Social media is a distraction for most, but, for me, it is just another part of my day.

6. The best friends

I've met so many fantastic people within my major, and some of them have become my closest friends. Just like the professors, my friends are extremely personable and creative. Having a close friend group to study with is the best, even if we don't understand some of the topics. I know these friends will last a lifetime, not just because we are in the same major, but because of the bonds we've made.

There are so many more reasons as to why I love being a communication major, but I don't have enough time to list them. Communication is so much more than just public speaking. I can definitely say it's not a waste of time or an easy major. Is it the absolute best and most fun major? In my mind, it most certainly is!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
