Older brothers have been there for you your entire life, providing you with the grossest wet willies and the longest atomic wedgies. But it isn't all bad. This strong commitment to the older brother title deserves a tribute.
1. He's your permanent body guard.
A creepy guy getting too close to you? No need to worry, your brother is always there to step in and save the day. He may even save the day with the non creeps as well, because as we all know that no one will ever be good enough for you in your brother's eyes. But at least he's there to protect you!
2. You learned all about guys from him.
From knowing if a guy is actually nice to guys' gross habits, your brother taught you all of it. He even taught you so well that those gross habits don't seem to bother you anymore. A burp to the face no longer phases you. You may even see it as a form of endearment.
3. He has hot friends.
When you were younger, your brother's friends would come over and you'd crush on them hard, but now you're old enough that these friends have more than friend potential. Your brother may not let this happen, because even his friends are not good enough for his little sister, but the potential is definitely there, and there's definitely some nice eye candy as well.
4. He made your parents give up on the rules.
Curfew? Psh. By the time you were making late night moves with friends, there was no curfew. Your brother violated that rule, and so many others, that your parents had given up on rules all together.
5. He's always there for advice.
Brothers aren't afraid to give you the truth. Whether it's answering a question of whether you look like a mess, or if you shouldn't have eaten that food with extra onions, he's right there with the hard truth. Of course, brothers get sick of the typical “how's this dress look?" question. Your older brother may drift off from the conversation topic slightly, and respond to your “does this make me look fat?" question with an “I understand," response, but he's still responsive!
6. He toughened you up.
Your brother treated you like his bro. Tripping, fighting, atomic wedgies, and surprise bodily functions to the face were as part of the daily routine, just as much as getting dressed and heading to school. With this daily routine, you had to toughen up and fight back, which has now made you ready to fight life's obstacles. You are prepared for anything that comes your way.
So here's to you, older brothers! All of those atomic wedgies have finally paid off.
