When people think of Halloween, they think of little kids dressing up in costumes, running around the neighborhood, and asking neighbors for candy. What about the local college students dressing up and going out to trick or treat? Are we too old for this? I am a freshman in college and I have been trick or treating every single year of my life. This Halloween, some of my friends and I went to a neighborhood near our college campus and we went trick or treating. The first couple houses we went to, people asked us questions like 'where do you kids go to school?' or 'how old are you?'. One man even straight out told us that we are 'too old' for this and that we were 'pushing it' tonight. This really upset me. Why are we shunned for going trick or treating when everyone else can do it? I thought of a couple points to why college students should be allowed to go trick or treating.

1) Keeps us out of trouble. Most college aged students go out to parties and get drunk on Halloween. If you are trick or treating, odds are you're probably not drinking; you are having fun without the alcohol.

2) Free candy. College students have enough money problems, so why can't we go get free candy for one night in the year? We need it more than kids do because we burn hundreds of calories just stressing over midterms, finals, and huge papers.

3) Gives us something to do. Instead of sitting in our cramped little dorms watching tv or studying because we have nothing else to do, we can go out with a great group of friends and go trick or treating! Plus, its a great way to get some exercise in.

4) We get to wear fun costumes. Instead of dressing in a provocative outfit for a party, we get to dress up in the craziest costumes ever. We could dress as a heard of college student zombies (because that's basically what we are).

5) College students are basically still kids. We sleep, eat, and cry about 90% of the time in college, so this means we are still toddlers on the inside, even though we are technically adults in training.

6) We miss Halloween! Being a college students, sometimes you just need a night of innocence and fun. Going trick or treating is the perfect opportunity to do this.

Overall, I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween, no matter what age you are!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
