Whenever I'm feeling particularly stressed or anxious, I have a few go-to's to help myself. Whether it be taking my mind off of the situation, relieving stress, or working through it, I have a few quick fixes that I've learned to help myself cope. There are plenty of other ways to reduce anxiety, but it's all about finding what works best for you! I like variety, so these are a few quick and easy approaches I often use:
1: EXERCISE
This can be something as simple as taking a walk to clear your head, doing a few squats to get your blood flowing, or whatever form of physical activity is your favorite! I personally have found that running is my best therapy, and it serves as my number one way to release stress. If you have extra time though, physically going to a workout class is a great option to relieve stress and anxiety since the energy of being with others can often lift your mood and improve your overall mindset.
2: LISTEN TO MUSIC
This is great for everyone because it's such a quick fix and can easily take your mind to a better place. I have tons of different playlists for all different moods and genres so I'm always ready! Sometimes stopping to listen to a song can be very calming.
3: DRINK WATER
This one may sound kind of weird, but for some reason, I've found that drinking water actually helps me feel less anxious! It helps control breathing and obviously keeps you hydrated and feeling good as well, so this one has all the benefits.
4: MAKE A PHONE CALL (NOT JUST A TEXT)
Yes, texting is great, but a simple phone call can do so much. It's always a great choice because you can use phone calls to catch up with someone, distract yourself, talk through issues, get things off your chest, or just talk about your day. I make phone calls almost as often as I text, surprisingly! Talking to someone will always help.
5: REWATCH AN EPISODE OF YOUR FAVORITE SHOW
This is my personal favorite way to unwind after a stressful day. It always helps me take my mind off things and laughing is always a good thing. My go to shows for this are Friends and Sex and the City :)
6: TAKE A BATH
Baths are the best!!! If you are someone who struggles to relax (like me), it's a perfect way to force yourself to unwind.
Hopefully some of these can help you temporarily relax, destress, or just get your mind off of whatever makes you anxious. I continue to try to find new stress relievers all the time!
