Being a twin is something amazing. Twins go through most life experiences at the same rate and time as someone else. Whether you are fraternal or identical, all twins have something in common- they shared the womb with another human. Being born with an automatic best friend is something to cherish, but all twins are tired of hearing the same 5 questions that we struggle to answer every time.
1. Do you like being a twin?
I mean I guess so. It’s all I have ever known. Asking someone if they like being a twin is like asking an Irish person if they like being Irish, or someone with brown hair if they like being brunette.
2. Are you identical?
While this one is a fair question to ask, some people ruin it for the rest of you. As a female with a male twin, I am very tired of having people ask us if we are identical. It is easy to mistake two female twins or two male twins about being identical, but it is impossible to be identical if you are opposite genders.
3. Do you have twin telepathy?
We might be close, but if you punch my brother in the arm, there is no way that I felt it.
4. You guys don't look alike.
Even though this isn’t a question, us twins are tired of hearing it. Identical twins are not the only twins, and we come in all shapes and sizes.
5. Which one is older?
Twins typically are no more than a few minutes apart, so asking which twin is older is a pointless question. Being 2 minutes older than your sibling does not really qualify you to be the older sibling, but it’s a nice feeling to hold over your twin.
There are many more questions that twins are tired of hearing, but those are the Big 5. The many positives about life with your twin outweigh these pesky questions, but it doesn’t make them any less annoying.
