As most of you Ole Miss students may know, during finals week, it is close to impossible to find a place to study in the JD Williams Library. Unless, of course, you get there at 7 a.m. and do not move at all during the day. Fortunately, there are other places you can study that you may not have ever thought about trying. Here is a list of study spots that you should try if you are not one of the lucky few to find a spot at the library.
1.Coffee ShopsOkay, so you may know that people like to study at coffee shops, but you have never done so yourself. Try it out! Sometimes there will be special finals week deals, and who doesn’t like the smell of coffee when stressed?? Fortunately, the number of coffee shops in Oxford are growing, which means more options for places to study.
2. Weir HallThis building is right around the corner from the library. If you try but fail to find a spot at the library, just walk on over to Weir Hall. It is open 24/7 and there are huge spacious tables, computers, printers, and copy machines. Sounds better than the library to me ...
3. Sorority/Fraternity HouseObviously, there is always the fear that your friends are going to do more socializing than studying. However, put in your earphones, seclude yourself to a corner, and no one will bother you. Plus, there is always the chance that the kitchen staff will be making study snacks.
4. Thad Cochran Research CenterThis is the science library located inside the Pharmacy building right next to Coulter Hall. I have heard this is a very quiet, studious place to study. If you do choose to go here to study, try not to be intimidated by the really smart students studying in there ...
5. Brevard HallThis building is located on the Circle. There are a few classrooms in here that are almost always empty at night. There is also a large study area off to the side of the foyer.
6. Study Rooms at College Living CommunitiesThe Retreat, The Hub, Highland Square, Freshmen dorms, and any other communities such as these, almost always have small, quiet study rooms. The study rooms at the off-campus college livings communities are located in the main building or “clubhouse.”
