Living on campus is expensive, sometimes annoying, but a whole lot more convenient than living in an off-campus apartment. With the classrooms and dining halls within walking distance, who wouldn't want to take advantage of these perks to on campus living?
1. You can wake up 15 minutes before class and still make it on time.
The alarm clock goes off and you've hit snooze one too many times...we've all been there. But if you resist the urge to snooze it one more time, you can still get up, throw on some sweats, and make it to class with a couple of minutes to spare. A plus? You don't have to search for a parking spot.
2. Walking distance to the dining halls.
Just like class is a quick walk across campus, so are the dining halls. Don't feel like cooking dinner, too broke to order in, or only a short time in between classes? A quick walk and easy swipe into the dining hall can solve all of those problems without traveling far.
3. Easy access to nap time.
If you live off campus, you have to factor in the travel time it takes for you to get to your apartment, back to campus in time for your next class, and the length of your nap. Once you have that time calculation figured out, you have to decide if it is even worth all the struggle to find a new parking spot or to be able to snuggle in your bed for 30 minutes for a quick nap. So instead, you debate a nap in the car or on the quiet floor of the library, hoping no one will catch you and Snapchat about it. Luckily, living on campus, you don't have to deal with this problem. Have 50 minutes before your next class? No problem! A quick half-hour nap and a snack can be squeezed in, without the stress of awkwardly walking in late to class.
4. Residential Life involvement.
If you are the kind of student that likes to be involved, there are some organizations you have to live on campus to be a part of. For example, being an RA requires living in a resident hall, and so does being a student leader in hall government.
5. All of your friends are down the hall.
Sure, this is provided you and your friend live in the same residence hall. Even if they aren't, it gives you the opportunity to make new friends easily. Unless you live in a real life "Friends" situation where Monica and Rachel are across the hall from Joey and Chandler, and Ross and Phoebe are down the block, at what other point in your life will you and all your friends live this close to one another? You don't even need to put on a coat or shoes to go over!
6. You don't need to find someone to cover your lease for a semester.
When graduating a semester early, or late, studying abroad, or participating in an internship elsewhere, you're already too stressed ensuring everything is situated and ready for that adventure. If you live on campus, you are able to worry a little less because you don't have the stress of finding someone to cover your apartment lease off campus for one semester. It's a lot easier breaking a residence contract with your residential life office on campus than with some landlord downtown. Also, it's potentially nicer on the wallet.
