While stereotypes can be both good and bad, sometimes we can't deny them. Nebraska is one of the most stereo-typed states in the U.S. When most people think of Nebraska, one word comes to mind; CORN. Are the stereotypes accurate or just construed pieces of information? Many people may argue that no stereotype is accurate, but here are seven Nebraskan stereotypes that are completely spot-on.
1. Nebraskans are the Most Hardcore College Football Fans
Nebraskans bleed Husker Football. Last weekend I walked into Wal-Mart during the Husker game, and I only saw four people. I am constantly reminded that I am in Nebraska by the GO BIG RED license plates that cannot be avoided anywhere. Nebraska's football passion still amazes me today; I have never gone to any of my friends' house on Saturday without talking about the Huskers. No matter where you go in Nebraska, you will realize very quickly the sparseness of people on game day as they are packed into their homes watching their favorite team play.
2. We are Very Proud of our Corn
Although Nebraska is not the top corn producing state (that title belongs to Iowa), you can not travel anywhere in Nebraska without seeing cornfields scattered across the land. Nebraskans definitely hold pride in the stereotype of corn. It is very often that you will go to a gathering and see corn as many menus include various corn dishes. Such as; corn fritters, corn pudding, corn chowder, cornbread, sweet corn, and caramel popcorn.
3. Runza is a Holy Place in Nebraska
For those of you that don't know Runza is a chain restaurant that only exists in Nebraska. I know what you are all thinking, but this is not just another fast food spot to eat! Although, I do advise caution as it can be very addictive. For the hardcore addicts of Runza, they have a very convenient online store that ships it anywhere in the U.S.
4. We are Beef Addicts
If your state claims to be good at something (in our case cows and corn), you better live up to the reputation; and Nebraska does this very well. When us Nebraskans aren't at Runza we are devouring a huge slab of beef. Although, not every steak will meet Nebraskan Standards. These steaks must be home-grown or from Omaha Steaks.
5. We Care About Our Trees
Nebraska invented Arbor Day, and the state's name was the "Tree Planter's State" until it was changed in 1945. Even though, Nebraska may not have many trees, they are valued to an extreme.
6. Nebraskans are the Nicest People You Will Ever Meet
Nebraska is very humble, and the complete opposite of those places you go to and get rude comments just for walking down the sidewalk. They will never turn a cold shoulder and ignore you. Any Nebraskan you meet will quickly engage in a conversation even if they barely know you.
