While Loveless Café, Hattie B’s and Pancake Pantry are sure to be on your list of restaurants to visit during your time in the city, here are my suggestions of a few outstanding places you shouldn’t overlook for a truly unique Nashville experience:
1. Biscuit Love / The Gulch / 316 11th Avenue S
For a true taste of the south in the most prized neighborhood of Nashville, you will want to observe brunch at Biscuit Love. The Gulch is the perfect backdrop to Biscuit Love’s incomparable food and simple yet edgy dining space. I highly recommend the East Nasty, which is fried, boneless chicken on a biscuit topped with sausage gravy and aged cheddar cheese. It is just as sinfully scrumptious as the description sounds. Their famed bonuts (yes, biscuit donuts) are a staple you should sample as well.
2. Fido / Hillsboro Village / 1812 21st Avenue S
Celebrity spotting is normal at Fido, yet the food alone makes this restaurant an A-List place to check out. Fido's funky atmosphere makes for a perfect place to sip some of their gourmet coffees or teas while enjoying a to-die-for omelet, sandwich or parfait. If you're looking to keep it simple but want a unique, Nashville-inspired experience (possibly with Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman dining nearby), Fido will be a perfect fit for you.
3. San Antonio Taco Company / West End / 416 21st Avenue S
San Antonio Taco Company, or more affectionately known as SATCO to locals, serves the best tacos and queso you will find in Nashville! I am admittedly addicted to their delicious and affordable menu items, the friendly crew, and the chill environment on West End this restaurant offers. SATCO is a weekly ritual of mine during the school year and an undeniable favorite of college students throughout Nashville.
4. Frothy Monkey / 12 South / 2509 12th Avenue S
Give your Starbucks addiction a break and head over to Frothy Monkey! My absolute favorite place to study for an upcoming exam when I need to get out of the library slump is the 12 South location. While coffee may be the star of the show at Frothy Monkey, they also have some delectable menu items to choose from. If going for breakfast, treat yourself to their oatmeal, French toast, or California (fried eggs, avocado, and sprouts on toast with salsa on the side). They also serve a killer lunch, the Royale sandwich being one of my top picks.
5. The Pharmacy / East Nashville / 731 McFerrin Avenue
East Nashville is such an eclectic neighborhood in Nashville, and the Pharmacy beautifully represents that. With their mouthwatering burger options, house-made sodas and floats, and fun outdoor dining option, the Pharmacy is the perfect place to kick back and chow down while in town, all while getting a glimpse of one of Nashville’s best yet most underrated areas. I recommend the farm burger.
6. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams / Multiple Locations
Ben and Jerry who? I understand Jeni's is a chain, but I had never even heard o fit before moving to Nashville for college! Since my first experience at Jeni's I have had no desire to get a frozen treat elsewhere. Jeni's off-the-grid flavor options will send you to ice cream paradise. I highly recommend brambleberry crisp (my personal favorite), churro, or buttered biscuits with peach jam. While I am sure the ice cream is equally delectable in all locations in the city, I am certainly partial to my 12 South lovelies who are always beyond hospitable! Go see them, and get extra napkins to wipe your tears from the deliciousness.
