6 Life Lessons I WIsh I Could Tell My Younger Self

To my younger self,

Well, you've made it this far. You survived those awkward middle school days, graduated high school and here you are; 20 years old in your junior year of college, slightly miserable. You are still young and probably have no idea what you're doing with your life. You overcame many obstacles in your life but there were a few things you seemed to have forgotten along the way. I don't regret anything from my childhood, I just wish I could've done some things differently. And if I could go back, there are a few things I would tell you.

1. You are beautiful and you are one of a kind. You may not believe this, but it's true. You are unique, you are special, and you are beautiful. Don't let what other people say to you get to your head. Momma always says, "They're just jealous."

2. Use your voice and speak up. You may be a little guppy, but you have a loud, strong voice. Use it. Don't be afraid to speak your mind because at the end of the day, that's how you earn respect. If people don't like what you have to say, well, that's their problem.

3. Don't worry about growing up just yet. Your childhood is slowly coming to an end. I know, it's scary but it is reality. Cherish these last few moments you have as a kid. Before you know it, you're going to be worrying about bills and rent and being on your own. You don't want to look back and say, "I wish I didn't grow up so fast." You want to have fun stories to tell your kids about the things you did as a kid. You'll have all the time in the world to be an adult and trust me, it really isn't all that great. Act your age and have fun.

4. Listen to your parents. They really have your best interest at heart and they know you better than you know yourself. If they say no to you going to the movies with your friends, don't be too upset. You're gonna do a whole lot of hanging out with your friends when you get older and you're probably gonna wish you were hanging out with your parents instead. You're gonna miss momma telling you to clean your room and making your doctors appointments. Let me tell you something, there's nothing more frightening than going to the doctor by yourself.

5. Do not rush into a relationship. In high school, all you wanted was for the cute boy in your math class to ask you out. Too bad he already had a girlfriend. I promise, being single is not that bad. Yes, it is normal to want someone to talk to throughout the day other than your roommates, and it is normal to want someone to keep you company when you are home alone, but don't rush into a relationship and put yourself in a situation that won't make you happy. You're young and beautiful, you still have time to find that special person. I'm not going to lie and say you won't face some difficult times. When that one boy tells you he doesn't want a relationship at the moment, be mature about it. Listen to what he has to say and don't be angry. Wipe your tears honey because make up is not cheap.

6. Don't give up on yourself. Darling, you will do amazing things with your life. You will come so far and you will be surprised with all that you have accomplished in your 20 years of life. It really makes you excited to see what the future holds for you. But when you feel like you're going nowhere and you feel like giving up, don't. Push yourself and have faith in yourself and in what you can do. Follow your dreams and don't give up. You truly are amazing.

Sincerely,

Your Older Self

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
