6 Life Lessons Barney Stinson Taught Us On 'How I Met Your Mother'

Barney Stinson: Suit Wearer, Womanizer, Business Man, one legen (wait for it) dary character. Although some his words were rather ridiculous at times, and stories made you shake his head, through nine years Barney Stinson did teach a few valuable lessons.

1. Confidence is key.

Even while wearing a ducky tie for a full year. Barney showed us that he could do anything and everything, and that usually was because of his confidence. With a little confidence you can pull off anything, and that is pretty much what Barney does through nine seasons.

2. "Wingmanship is a two way street."

Always follow the bro code and stay strict to it. But also always be true to your friends and they'll be true friends to you. Like Barney said, it's a two way street so don't expect your "best friends" to be best friends if you don't act like one to them. Whether he wanted it to seem like it or not, you know Barney was always a true friend, going laser tagging with Ted, constantly at the bar with the group, and most importantly when he bought Lily the plane ticket to come home to Marshall.

3. "Nothing suits me like a suit."

Yeah, remember our favorite Barney musical debut, nothing suits me like a suit? Well, who could forget it. But lets think about it. Nothing suits Barney like a suit. Barney wears his suit because its what makes him feel comfortable, powerful, confident, and most importantly what makes him feel like him. Whether it be an Italian three piece suit or a flannel with jeans, wear what ever makes you, you. Don't be afraid to show that you, and don't be anyone but yourself and don't give up who you are for someone else, because if anyone taught us not to be ashamed of who we are that would be Barney Stinson.

4. Everything has potential to be legendary. So act like it.

Nothing to Barney is downplayed. Everything is or has the potential to be legendary, making his life always full of excitement. Living like every moment has potential to be legendary is equivalent to living your life to the fullest and always bringing the positive into situations. Live as if every moment will be legendary and your life will be legen (wait for it) dary.

5. Take on challenges.

Barney never denied to take on a challenge. He always took it on with confidence and readiness. Barney taught us to never turn down a challenge, no matter how ridiculous the end result could be (like wearing a ducky tie for a whole year) and always have faith in yourself that you can complete the challenge.

6. Sometimes all you need is a Self-Five.

Barney was always giving high fives in all sorts of different ways. But sometimes all you need is a self-five, a pat on the back, a moment to tell brag to yourself and tell yourself that you did well or that you're awesome and you know it. Never be afraid to give yourself a self-five and treat yourself, because you're you, you're awesome, and you deserve it.

Thank you Barney for the laughs, and for the valuable life lessons through nine years of "How I Met Your Mother."

“Think of me like Yoda but instead of being little and green I wear suits and I’m awesome. I’m your bro – I’m Broda!”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
