Are there any "Lizzie McGuire" fanatics out there? I was probably one of the biggest Lizzie fans you could ever imagine. From the crimped hair to the clumsy tendencies, Lizzie was the coolest. Not only was I crazy about "Lizzie McGuire," but Hilary Duff was my idol at the young age of eight years old. You better believe I still follow her on Instagram because once a fan, always a fan, am I right? That being said, I found so much meaning in anything "Lizzie McGuire" growing up. Here are a few of the life lessons "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" taught me.
1. It’s cool to miss your mom.
Oh, it gets me every time. Lizzie is at the airport, about to go through
2. Hold on to the Gordos in your life.
Guy friends are a precious thing to hold onto. I can’t say that I have any guy friends quite like Gordo in my life, but then again, he is a fictional character. However, I do have plenty of guy friends who I know would be there for me in a heartbeat. Gordo is such a constant in Lizzie’s life, and it is evident throughout the entire series and movie that he is just head over heels for her. Wake up, Lizzie... Gordo is gold.
3. It’s okay to be an outfit repeater.
Kate Sanders, Lizzie's frenemy, tried to insult her at their eighth
4. The mean girls? Keep killing them with kindness.
Oh, there is so much to be said about this one. But, why fight fire with fire? I’ve always admired Lizzie and her ability to continue being nice to Kate amidst snarky comments and bullying. Chances are you will not see the fruits of your kindness, but that’s not what matters. Keep smiling and killing the Kates in your life with kindness!
5. Never, under any circumstances, go off with a foreign man you just met in a foreign country.
Enough said. Just don’t do it. You might, like Lizzie, become an international popstar for a week or two, but it’s just not worth the risk.
6. Don’t pass up once-in-a-lifetime opportunities—be brave!
If you happen to do #5 and get the chance to perform in front of a crowd of thousands while you’re in Rome, you should do it. The scene where Lizzie performs with Isabella is probably one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. Every time I watched it, all I could say to myself was “I want to be her” over and over in my head and aloud. She looked rad, but looking back, it wasn’t the fame and the looks I admired most about that scene. It was the bravery Lizzie exhibited. The last time I watched "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" (last summer), I cried during this scene because I still want to be her.
Oftentimes, our favorite childhood movies stick around with us for longer than we could imagine. For me, that is how I feel about "The Lizzie McGuire Movie." It made an impact on my life, as silly as that might sound. Who are the Lizzie McGuires in your life? What movies have impacted you? Think about that today, and as you think about it, remember that "you rock, don't ever change."
Disclaimer: I may or may not have watched three episodes of "Lizzie McGuire" as I wrote this.
