Halloween just ended but I'm not over horror movies just yet. I felt the need to share my opinion on some horror movies I think everyone should sit down and watch. Whether it's by yourself or you're with your friends these are some good ones! As a side note, I recommend watching them with someone else so when you scream they also scream, it makes you feel better!
1. The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)
The Taking of Deborah Logan is an example of what a "found footage" movie should be. The movie starts out by having a group of people who decided to record an older lady, Deborah Logan, who is suffering from Alzheimer's. However it's not long before strange things start happening in the house and it turns out that maybe Deborah isn't suffering from just Alzheimer's. With an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, you don't need to just take my word for it!
2. Oculus (2013)
Oculus tells the story of a family torn apart by a horrible tragedy and the lengths a Brother and Sister will go through to prove that their father is innocent. To achieve this they track down a mirror that was in their house at the time of the tragedy because they believe that it was the cause of all the strange things that happened in their house. While trying to rebuild a strained relationship the brother and sister learn that they need to count on each other to tell whats real and whats the mirror.
3. The Strangers (2008)
This is one of those movies I had to put on this list. The Strangers is the main reason that I have to make sure every door in my house in locked every night. The reason it stuck with me for so long is because the plot is totally realistic. A couple trying to rekindle their broken relationship gets terrorized by a group of three masked strangers. The worst part of the movie is when they are asked "Why are you doing this?" Their simple response "Because you were home" still gives me the chills.
4. Sinister (2012)
This is great if you're looking for a well made movie with some amazing jump scares. A true-crime writer decides to move his family to a house that is home to a horrific crime. However soon he finds out there is more to the story than what meets the eyes (of course it's a horror movie.) With plenty of scares and an ending that actually surprises, I definitely recommend it.
5. Get Out (2017)
Could I even write a list of horror movies to watch without including Get Out? Jordan Peele wrote and directed this story about a man who goes home with his white girlfriend to meet her family. When he gets there it turns out that it isn't a normal family visit but a dark and twisted experience. With one of the highest ratings on Rotten Tomatoes (a 99%) it is a movie that every person should see!
6. Hush (2016)
The last movie on this list is one of the most heart racing movies of all times. A deaf writer who lives in a remote cabin in the woods by herself starts to get weird messages and soon finds out that a killer is stalking her. The movie cuts in and out with sound to illustrate what it is like to be dealing with a psychopath and not being able to hear anything. The best part about this movie though is that it can be streamed with Netflix!
