During the difficult times of finals weeks, where the papers seem to continue piling up, and four cumulative exams in four days threaten us, we need a little bit of Coach Taylor's wisdom. After all, "Friday Night Lights" wasn't just great because of the beautiful Tim Riggins.
1. "I'm a firm believer in you can do anything you put your mind to, yourself, you, I believe you can do anything you put your mind to."
Optimism is key!
2. "Stick together. It all works out."
Friendship is more important than ever during the dreadful weeks of finals. Find a friend to hit the stacks with you for countless hours, or who will bring you mozzarella sticks at one in the morning when you're still cramming for orgo.
3. "You listen to people that love you and you listen to people that you trust. Most of all, you listen to yourself."
When your best friend is concerned about your recent sleeping patterns and is questioning how you're going to sleep at 5 a.m. and waking up at 8 a.m., maybe it's time to listen to them and go to bed. However, you know yourself better than anyone else. When your friends insist on dragging you to the last lax game but going may cost you a C in French, don't go. You're in the home stretch and you know what's best for yourself better than anyone.
4. "I said you need to strive to be better than everyone else. I didn't say you needed to be better than everyone else. But you gotta try. That's what character is: It's in the try.”
The most important thing is that you tried and gave it your all. Study. Study. Study. So at the end of the semester, no matter the grade you got, you'll be content with yourself. Getting a B in Multivariable Calculus will be much more fulfilling knowing that you tried your best.
5.“Every man at some point in his life is going to lose a battle. He is going to fight and he is going to lose. But what makes him a man is that in the midst of that battle he does not lose himself. This game is not over, this battle is not over.”
Failure is okay. It is not the end of the world if you failed one class. You're still going to graduate and get that killer job you always dreamed of. Hey, if Jason Street was able to move on with his life being stuck in a wheelchair and never playing football again, I think you'll be fine, failing that one college algebra class that kills everyone.
6. "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose."
And the most important of all:
Clear eyes, Full hearts, Can't Lose!
Give it your all and I'm sure you'll do great. If anything, there's always next semester to improve on.
