Logan summers are one of my favorite things. When I first say that, people look at me like I'm crazy, but there are so many things to do around Logan! I've included a list of my favorite places to go when I am looking for a little fun and adventure.
1. Cliff Jumping at Porcupine Reservoir.
This is one of my favorite things to do when I have a free day. Porcupine is full of activities, but one of the most popular is cliff jumping. The cliffs range in height from around eight feet to 60 feet. There are also a few beaches to get your tan on, and some great trees for hammocks. If you intend to cliff jump, the swim can be long and tedious, so I would recommend bringing a flotation device to take you across. I like to rent paddle boards from USU Outdoor Programs (ORP) located in the ARC which you can do here.
2. Hyrum Dam.
Hyrum dam is a great place to relax on a beach, or the closest thing to a beach that Logan has to offer. It can get a little over crowded, but is a great place if you want to relax in the water. It has one downfall. You have to pay for parking.
Hyrum Dam is located at: 6263 S 600 W, Hyrum, UT 84319.
3. Floating the Oneida Narrows.
This is a favorite of my friends because it is a great way to relax outside. Floating the entirety of the Oneida Narrows takes about five hours, but can be shortened if you decide to start at different spots down the river. If you are going to float Oneida make sure you bring a sturdy tube with you, water to stay hydrated, and lots of sunscreen! You will also have to have at least two cars, one to stay at the end of the narrows, and one to take everyone up to the top once the float is over.
The Oneida Narrows are located at:
Oneida Narrows Bear River Road
Thatcher, Idaho
GPS: 42.273679, -111.743895
4. Bear Lake.
Bear Lake is not just for boaters. There are many activities at Bear Lake, like hanging out at the beach or eating at one of the many local eateries. My favorite beach at Bear Lake is North Beach, located at 3890 N Beach Rd, St Charles, ID 83272. It does cost money to park at North Beach, but I think it is well worth it. If you go to Bear Lake, you have to stop at one of the many local restaurants and get a famous Bear Lake raspberry shake!
5. Bloomington Lake Rope Swing.
Bloomington Lake is absolutely gorgeous! It is a half mile hike to get to the lake, but once you're there you are rewarded with an awesome rope swing! This lake is freezing cold, but the rope swing is worth the risk. If you aren't a fan of the cold, there is still plenty to do around the lake that doesn't include getting wet.
Bloomington Lake is located in Idaho up Highway 89.
6. Hiking in Logan Canyon.
When all else fails, hiking in Logan Canyon is a great way for me to get some adventure without having to travel far. There are a ton of really great hikes up Logan Canyon, including Jardine Juniper, Tony Grove and my personal favorite, the Crimson Trail. I personally think the Wind Caves are overrated, but is a good hike when you don't have a lot of time. If you are feeling extra adventurous, Logan Canyon is also great for backpacking and camping. One popular destination is White Pine Lake, which is up the same road as Tony Grove.
Logan may not be the most exciting place to live, but there are plenty of adventures to be had around our little valley!
