Despite the nasty stink created by politics, DC still has something pretty sweet to offer: cupcakes. These sweet little desserts gained immense popularity starting in 2007 and although growth has slowed, they still remain a staple in the district's food scene. Check out these 6 cupcake boutiques in the D.C. area to see what the hype is all about!

1. The Sweet Lobby

Address: 404 8th St SE, Washington, DC 20003

Neighborhood: Barracks Row

Website:http://sweetlobby.com/

Located close to Capitol Hill, The Sweet Lobby is one of the city's best cupcakeries. Their shop is on 8th street, a hotspot for millennials and young professionals. This bakery sets itself apart from the rest by serving cupcakes, macaroons, and cupcakes topped with macaroons. Talk about fancy!

2. Georgetown Cupcake

Address: 3301 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Neighborhood: Georgetown; multiple locations

Website: https://www.georgetowncupcake.com/

When people think of DC cupcakes, they think of Georgetown Cupcake. This famed cupcake boutique now has locations all over the nation. If you don't have time to wait in the ridiculously long line, fear not! They deliver pink boxes of their delicious handmade creations right to your doorstep.

3. Buzz Bakeshop

Address: 818 N Quincy St, Arlington, VA 22203

Neighborhood: Ballston; multiple locations

Website: http://buzzbakeshop.com/

Although Buzz Bakeshop isn't in DC proper, it is still worth mentioning because it's so good! The popular cupcakes sold at the 9:30 Club on U Street are made at Buzz. They also serve tons of other flavors, including s'mores (pictured above).

4. Red Velvet Cupcakery

Address: 505 7th St NW, Washington, DC 20004

Neighborhood: Penn Quarter

Website:https://www.redvelvetcupcakery.com/

As the name suggests this bakery specializes in red velvet cupcakes, but they offer lots of other options, too! Red Velvet Cupcakery's main selling point is that it's super convenient. Situated in the heart of downtown DC, it's easily accessible for anyone exploring the monuments or museums.

5. Sprinkles

Address: 3015 M St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Neighborhood: Georgetown; multiple locations

Website:http://sprinkles.com/

Sprinkles is the genius behind the coolest invention ever— cupcake ATMs (seriously). Sadly there isn't one of their ATMs in DC, but they do have a brick and mortar shop in Georgetown! The cute pink interior and super-sweet staff make this one of the best cupcake shops in the city.

6. Baked and Wired

Address: 1052 Thomas Jefferson St NW, Washington, DC 20007

Neighborhood: Georgetown

Website:https://bakedandwired.com/

Baked and Wired might not be well known among tourists, but it definitely wins the vote from locals for best cupcakes. The cupcakes here have more cake and less icing, but that doesn't mean they're any less delicious. In addition to cupcakes, Baked and Wired also has other sweet treats and coffee!

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
