In the midst of the holidays craze, for music lovers, Christmas came early this year with the list of the 58th Annual Grammy Awards Nominations. No shock, Taylor Swift, the Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar dominated all the categories with over five nominations each.
The three artists will all be duking it out for the gold gramophone in the biggest award categories of the night. Swift, Lamar and the Weeknd all locked down the prestigious nomination of Album of the Year. In addition, Swift’s “Blank Space” earned nominations in both Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Close behind, the Weeknd’s pop hit “Can’t Feel My Face” grabbed a nod in the Record of the Year category, and Lamar’s “Alright” established itself in the Song of the Year category.
Joining the nomination-clad triplet in the Album of the Year category will be the rock band Alabama Shakes’ “Sound and Color,” and country singer, Chris Stapleton’s “Traveller.”
For those of you wondering where Adele is on the list, the Grammy cut-off was September 30, 2015, making her multi-platinum “25” album ineligible for any nominations. This is similar to Taylor Swift’s “1989” album which was released October 27th, 2014 making it ineligible for any awards last February.
D’Angelo & The Vanguard, Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran will be competing with the Weeknd and Taylor Swift for Record of the Year. Then joining Swift and Lamar for Song of the Year, Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush,” Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” and Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” gained nominations too.
The 58th Annual Grammy Awards will air February 15th on CBS.
