I have never lived without a cat or a dog in all 18 years of my life, but if I had to choose which animal to continuously have in my household, I would choose cats. This doesn't mean that I hate dogs or I'd not be upset if I never lived with another dog again. It just means that I prefer to have a feline as my pet rather than dogs. I would never hate dogs or never want to not have one. I love dogs. I just prefer having a cat.
There are a few reasons as to why I'd choose this, but the first reason is because of how cats act. Cats are calmer in nature and more docile than most dogs. I can easily cuddle up with my kitten and watch TV, whereas it would take a while to calm down an excited dog in order to relax and watch a TV show. It's less stressful to own a cat with this concept because, yes, cats get into things sometimes, but they are less likely to get into messier or dangerous things. Dogs get into the trash and drink from the toilet, but the most my cats have done is knock the remote off of my table or play with the necklaces hanging from my jewelry wall.
Cats also have an easier bathroom habit than dogs do. It's easier to have a cat that goes down to the litter box, does its business in a few seconds and cleans it up at the end of the day than to have a dog that has to be taken out three or more times a day. It's less responsibility for a busy owner like me who has to go to work school every day of the week. Cats are more independent than dogs are, which is another great reason to be a cat owner.
Wouldnt you rather pet an animal that lays there gently while you pet them rather than jump up on you and tackle you down like a dog may do? My cats will simply stay calm and purr as I pet them whenever I want. A dog would just get too excited and jump up and try to lick my face. The worse a cat does when it licks a human is try to "groom" the person and that usually doesn't involve slobbering on the face.
I understand that most of the world would prefer to have a dog as a pet, but my opinion stays mine and you're surely allowed to have your own opinion too. For me, cats are just easier for busy pet owners, easier to cuddle with and pet without having to yell commands such as "sit" or "stay." Truthfully, in my own experience, cats seem to be more friendly than dogs. I understand the common thought people have of cats is that they bite and they're mean and hiss, but none of the cats I've ever had have done these things.
Cats are just my favorite. I love those cute, furry, purring messes and I wouldn't give them up for anything. I know that until the day I die, I will most likely never have less than two cats in my household at all times since I've never not had cats in my home.
