We have all had those nights where pizza and reminiscing on how much better you looked in that ridiculously tight prom dress senior year than you do now post-freshman 15 seems much more appealing than motivating you to put makeup on and trek down to the nearest frat/off-campus house to dance, sweat and watch other people make out. Sometimes this incredible opportunity does not always entice us, especially if we feel as though every weekend is repetitive. Well, look no further if you're having a boring Friday evening or a standard Saturday night. Thank God for themed parties, am I right?
In my opinion, having a party that incorporates a theme makes going out so much more random, exciting and fun. There are so many options when it comes to having a themed party, and of course, it is always a blast to figure out what you are going to wear to fit the individual theme and coordinate with your friends. Now, let’s recap: there are, of course, the more typical, mainstream themes you always witness on your Instagram feed such as army, luau, snow bunnies, jungle, “insert popular music festival,” or risky business. These classic themes are sure to bring out the best in your friend group.
There are some girls fighting over who gets to wear the cheetah print skirt and who gets to wear the brand-new, CVS-purchased cat ears. Other girls are left contemplating whether that open-backed, camouflage jumpsuit is worth their hard-earned babysitting money. Lastly, the rest of the girls are left to decide if their Patagonia or North Face fleece would be a more appropriate look for a chic, yet sassy, “snow bunny” of 2016. I have been there, and I understand how hard these decisions can be. I was the girl who was deciding between the camouflage jumpsuit and my “hard-earned” babysitting money (AKA accidentally letting a child eat nine marshmallows and run around the house way past the 8 p.m. bedtime dictated to me by the high-maintenance parents).
Let’s just say I, of course, bought the jumpsuit and also was never invited to babysit that child again. And who could forget we also have the boys who are deciding if they should wear that new neon muscle tee that honestly would only be appropriate for a Woodstock-themed gathering. Views. Although, these themes are considered traditional they are by no means unsuccessful and are guaranteed to provide a fun experience.
Done army and luau and decided green is truly not your color or hula skirts just don’t fit your hips quite right? Take a risk with your friends and try the bold jorts and jerseys, tanks and Tim's, kegs and eggs, barbarians and librarians, or the always interesting donuts and go nuts. It is important to keep your head clear and focused when deciding on a themed party because the more creative, the better. So no calculus problem sets, historical references or unfinished organic chemistry labs nearby when you're brainstorming.
Spice up your social scene with a themed party and, in doing so, recognize the value and hardship that is finding an outfit for each of them.
