With move in day quickly approaching, I can't help but feel a little nervous about being an incoming freshman. And by nervous, I mean I feel like I want to throw up just from thinking about college. I'm not sure how other freshman feel about the situation, but if you're anything like me, you're beginning to panic. This is especially true for those of us going far from home. You're starting to regret even applying to schools. You think to yourself, "There is nothing wrong with serving at the local restaurant in town for the rest of my life." Although I tried to convince myself of that, I know it's not true because if I don't go to college, I will never meet my full potential. Even though I doubt myself, I have to go through with going to school, and so do each and every one of us scared freshman.
No matter how hard it seems to be now that our days at home are numbered, we still have to do this. Despite the fears we have about leaving our friends, family and our pets, it's important we go through with going to school. Not only that, we have to do this for us, and no one else. Don't choose to go just because you already matched everything you bought for your dorm with your roommate, and not because you already made the sports team. Don't go now just because it's too late to change your mind. Choose to go for yourself. You have to do this to prove everyone wrong who has ever doubted you. You have to do this for the times your parents have said that you weren't worthy enough for them to invest that much money into schooling for you. This is your chance to prove everyone wrong. Prove yourself wrong. Go to school, and get such good grades that you not only impress your parents, but you impress yourself.
Yes, this is directed to all of you that have your heads down afraid of the world. What happened to the person who couldn't wait to live in a new city? What happened to the person who couldn't wait to explore new towns, and meet new people? What happened to the person who was ready to discover themselves on their own? What happened to the student who was so excited they got excepted to the school they dreamed of going to? Remember your first step on the campus, and how you felt your soul light up because you finally felt as if the future wasn't that far away at all? Just because your worry may outweigh those feelings you once felt, it doesn't mean they're not still present. You have to experience the world on your own, and you can't do that from home.
Let the doubt you feel inside your heart and soul transform into something better. As you feel the days still counting down to move in day, let that built up doubt you feel inside burst into inspiration for you to do well. So pack up your things, do your last minute dorm shopping, and await the day your future begins in a new city. This is one of the first huge steps in our adult lives, so take it no matter how difficult it looks to get up.
