New classes. Syllabi. Spring break plans. It's still cold out. Still not having your life together. This is how I immediately describe my thoughts when I realize that it is halfway through the year. Maybe you have the same thoughts. Or maybe yours are slightly more positive. Either way you probably have some goals you have either achieved or not. Maybe you're counting down the days until your last final. Maybe you're a senior who is holding onto every last experience you'll have at school.
Another year down, another [insert your appropriate time length here] to go.
Obviously, here in Pennsylvania, we are still in the winter season, halfway through our school year. Usually the middle of winter is when people start feeling the seasonal depression kicking in. It can be hard to wait until it finally starts to get warm again while also being stuck in a rut. The school year itself isn't new anymore, and you're anxiously awaiting the season that marks a beginning and also an end. Spring is associated with new life and fresh, warm weather. Spring also marks the end of school years everywhere. That only means that everyone starts to talk about finals, summer plans and even graduation.
But until that time rolls around, here is some encouragement to hold onto until that time.
First and foremost, we have obviously begun 2016. A new year can mean a new everything. Just because the sun still sets at 5 p.m. and we only see the sun for 30 minutes every week doesn't mean you can't start yourself off with a new goal to make your life feel new. If you've started one and then ditched it, try again. You'll thank yourself by the time April rolls around. Your mental timeline might say that you're halfway through the school year, but you are only at the beginning of the actual, calendar year. There are still 11 months left to get yourself going and really make a difference for yourself. It's also fun to see progress.
Second, mentally prepare yourself for any endings you might experience come May. If you're graduating, try not to experience things for the last time with a "last time" feeling. Forget about the fact that you're leaving and moving on, and experience everything for the last time with a "this is so much fun" attitude. You'll feel better looking back and being glad that you were able to let go and have the moment for whatever it was.
Finally, if you're eager for something to end come May, just wait it out. Keep busy. Maybe the school year is not a fun time for you. Maybe something better is coming along in the summer or September. Keeping busy makes the time fly, if that's what you want. I hope whatever you're waiting for is worth it.
If it's the middle of the year and you're feeling stuck at all, either clean your room or eat a sundae. Literally nothing has the power to make you feel more like a new person than either of those things. Also try a nice positive attitude while holding out for spring.
