50 Things I Want My Daughter To Know

I am 18 and I am in no place in my life to have a child. I still think about what it would be like having one from time to time. I have made stupid and foolish decisions that somehow have made amazing memories, but I have also done foolish things that led to major regret. All the struggles I have faced made me into the person I am today. While continuing to mature, I have this feeling in my heart that I can and (when the time comes) will be able to give the best, tender love and care to my daughter. Here is what I would wish:

1. Stay true to yourself.

2. Be a leader not a follower.

3. If there is ever a guy that cheats on you, say goodbye right away.

4. Don't tell your mother you hate her, you will regret it later.

5. There are going to be people that never like you.

6. You are more beautiful than you will ever know.

7. Get to know people before you judge them right away.

8. Don't let one mistake define who you are.

9. Kill them with kindness.

10. Call your grandmom time to time just because.

11. Calm down with your eyeliner.

12. Your eyes don't need to be black for them to stand out.

13. You don't need the makeup, you are beautiful the way you are.

14. Your parents know more than you do.

15. Bad times make you appreciate the good times.

16. Remember to brush your teeth, brush your hair, wash your hands and wash your face.

17. Family is not just the people who are related to you.

18. No one is perfect.

19. Everyone has flaws.

20. Chase your dreams, don't let anyone tell you that they aren't worth it.

21. We are going to have the sex talk and there is nothing you can do about it. You need to listen to me. Please just listen to me. I know more about it than you do.

22. Trial and error is allowed in your life.

23. Your GPA does not define how smart you are.

24. There will be people who let you down.

25. The most beautiful thing you can do is smile.

26. You were beautiful before he told you.

27. Do not let a man convince you that he is strong enough to change you.

28. Find friends that are okay with holding your hair back.

29. Make sure you are there to hold theirs back too.

30. Even if you are as tall as me, wear the damn heels, they are cute.

31. High school is not the best time of your life.

32. College is.

33. Keep your head up.

34. Go barefoot.

35. Believe in anything you want to.

36. Find yourself a gay best friend.

37. Don't pass up an experience just to sleep.

38. Learn how to get to the front row at concerts.

39. Make a Bucket List.

40. Love the way you laugh.

41. Laugh as much as you can.

42. Find beauty in everything.

43. Do not let your fears hold you back.

44. The truth is always easier than a lie.

45. Surround yourself with people that encourage you.

46. Do not let anyone push you around.

47. There will be a guy that breaks your heart.

48. I am so proud of you.

49. I love you more than you will ever know.

50. Always say "I love you" before you leave.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
