5 Wonders Of Not Wearing Any Makeup

A few hidden joys of putting down your makeup brushes.

5 Wonders Of Not Wearing Any Makeup
Marlee Hune

For years I was never the type of girl to wear a lot of makeup; I just never really got into it. In more recent years I started to enjoy experimenting with different looks, and I started to find myself almost dependent on it. Because of this I decided to take a step back and take a break from wearing any makeup. Here is a list of things I came to appreciate during this break.

1. Rubbing My Eyes Whenever I Please

This may sound silly, but if my eyes itched or if there was something stuck in my eye I was actually able to do something about it. Usually I would just sit there and try to convince myself it didn't itch. I didn't realize what a luxury this was until I hadn't been wearing makeup for a bit.

2. Getting To Sleep In

You may not think that skipping the step of applying makeup in your morning routine would save you very much time, but it really does. As a college student, I'll take as much sleep as I can get. During the school week I found myself getting ready much faster and I got to sleep in a little extra every morning which made me slightly less crabby throughout the day.

3. Letting My Skin Breathe

Up until recently I never dreamed of wearing foundation on a regular basis. My skin started to break out and instead of dealing with it, I would just cover it up every day. Taking a break from my makeup allowed me to get comfortable with my skin again and it even cleared up after a couple of days.

4. Taking Time To Focus On Other Things

With the time I had left in the morning I was able to focus on different things. I was able to take the time to make sure I had everything I needed, organize my things, and set myself up to be more productive throughout the rest of the day.

5. Feeling Good About Myself

Taking this little break from makeup allowed me to appreciate myself just the way I am. I started to get used to seeing myself with makeup on, and taking a break allowed me to appreciate my "just rolled out of bed" look too. Makeup can be a fun way to express yourself, but it is also important to take time to appreciate yourself and love what your mama gave you

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
