I am obsessed with webcomics. I have a whole folder on my Chrome page dedicated to specific comics that I love, and the folder is longer than the webpage. With that being said, I wanted to point out five of them that I particularly love. As always, these are just my opinions, so feel free to put any webcomics you love in the comment section below. So, without further ado, let's begin:
5. Weregeek
This is a cute little comic about nerds being nerds. I'm not much of a roleplaying gamer, but I love seeing how the artist interprets imaginary events. The art style is not the greatest I've ever seen, but the characters are wonderful, the situations are varied, and the imagination is off the charts.
4. Let's Speak English
Warning: Occasional foul language.
If you're in a strange country teaching English to non-native speakers, what do you do? Make a webcomic about your wacky adventures, of course! Mary Cagle is an artist who worked in Japan as an English teacher for a while, and this comic portrays what some of her sillier adventures were like. The comic is sadly finished, but there is a book in the making to catalogue all the comics. It's well worth the read.
3. Selkie
This is possibly my favorite slice of life comic. Selkie follows the adventures of a fish-human hybrid named, of course, Selkie. She is adopted by a human father, and various misadventures ensue. The art is not exceptional, but the story is one of the greatest I've ever read. This comic has been going on for quite a while, and it shows no signs of stopping. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, this is one of the first websites I go to.
2. Sam and Fuzzy
Warning: Violence, language, and some sexual situations.
Sam and Fuzzy is a beautiful webcomic that has no comparison. There is nothing like it. Although it started as the daily adventures of two mismatched roommates, it quickly evolved into a story of ninjas, gangs, underground agencies, villainous organizations, and heartbreak. I've read this story for more than five years, and it still gets me excited for every new update. There are few comics I could recommend more highly.
1. Cucumber Quest
Cucumber, the titular character, is ready to go off to magic college, but before he can, he learns that he must go on a magical quest to stop the Nightmare Knight from taking over the world. The only problem: he's not interested. All Cucumber wants to do is study magic, but he goes on the quest anyway, bringing his overeager sister along with him. This comic has my favorite art of any comic I've ever seen. The colors, the character designs, and the backgrounds are perfectly on point. I love the personalities that are on display, and the humor makes the journey even more enjoyable. If you want to see what a webcomic can really be if it is done with love and patience, then this is the comic for you.
For this week, I'd like to recommend this music video by Taylor Davis. I love instrumental music, so when there's an instrumental version of an anime opening, you know I'm invested.
