With the beginning of the spring season right upon us and the newly warm weather around us, it is time to begin to think about the official detox of the spring: spring cleaning! Whether it helps you symbolically as a person or if you simply have let your living space (and probably, life) get a little messy, it is always a good idea to take advantage of the notion of spring cleaning!
1. Throw away unnecessary things that remind you of a sad time in your past.
Whether it's pictures of your ex or simply a dead plant that you wanted so badly to bloom but never did, throw it away. Don’t use the excuse of simply “not getting to it” or “not having time.” It’s a quick fix and it will be worth it not have constant reminders about the sadness your past has recently caused you.
2. Give away things you haven’t used (or worn) in the past year.
Because let’s face it, if you haven’t used it since last spring, it is probably not very needed in your life. It is simply taking up space and that space would be so much better utilized with a new pair of jeans or top that looks great on you!
3. Get rid of things that keep you from changing into who you want to become.
Just because it has happened or is in your past doesn’t mean that is who you are. Give yourself a fresh new start so that you can move forward.
4. Recycle old school papers / books.
If you’re like me you keep a lot of old notes and papers thinking that you will go back and reference them in the future. Yet, this never seems to happen and I always end up with a heaping pile of papers stuffed in the corner of my room, looking messy and taking up space.
5. Officially let go of regret from poor decisions and mistakes and make the effort to change for the better.
Everyone makes mistakes! It’s important to remember that you aren’t always going to be perfect and that just because you made one poor decision doesn’t mean that’s who you are. Decide to make a conscious effort to not make the mistake again and move on!
After these five steps, you will be further on your way to a healthier, less toxic lifestyle that I hope will lead you to a happier and more fulfilling life. Take advantage of the warmer weather and your newly put-together life and go outside to explore Spring!
