Finally! Winter break is here and everyone can finally breathe again. The holidays will ebb away the stress and tension we all were feeling right before the break. Enjoy your time off and relax, but if you are feeling adventurous here are some fun things to do this winter break:

1. Go shopping.

If you think Black Friday is the day for good sales, then you clearly have not been post-Christmas shopping. This is the awkward in-between time when stores are trying to get rid of their winter inventory to make room for the new spring collections. Everything is marked down and it's a fun way to spend your new Christmas cash.

2. Study for midterms.

Winter break is the perfect time to get ahead in school. For those high schools students who have midterms at the beginning of January, don't wait last minute. Start small and study an hour each day over break. It will be all worth it when all of your friends are cramming and you're solid on the material.

3. Hang out with friends.

Let's face it, the winter season is busy with activities and holidays. We don't have very much down time to spend with our friends and family. Use your break to catch up, laugh, and make memories with the ones you love.

4. Start a project.

Do you have something you've always wanted to do but never had time for? Winter break is a great time to try something new. You have a whole week to spend any way you like and a new project or activity in your life could be exciting.

5. Take a trip.

A whole week off from school, what better to do then get away from it all? If you want to really relax, then a vacation is perfect for you! Go somewhere exotic or take a road trip to the next state, either way, you will return feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the upcoming year.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
