College can be stressful. You have lectures to attend, there are assignments and studying to do, and if you're in clubs you have meetings to go to. Things can get a little crazy and while you may want to stay busy you do need to relax sometimes. So here are a few things to help you de-stress.
1) Meditation
I started going to meditation last semester because I was feeling really stressed out and honestly it made a huge difference. I left the class feeling refreshed and energized. The breathing techniques helped relieve the buildup and stress. Check out your universities gym class schedule to see if it is offered.
2) Yoga
Yoga works wonders. It is a great stress reliever if you're feeling tense and also want to exercise a bit. Each pose does a different thing for stress relief, like the Child's Pose for instance rests your posture as well as benefiting to your nervous system and lymphatic system.
3) Take a nap
Sometimes you just really need a nap. Even if it is a 20 minute nap. Sleep is important and when you're lacking rest you're mind isn't fully there. Naps are shown to reduce stress, and even boost your immune system.
4) Turn off your phone
I always have my phone on me, it's basically attached to my body. Sometimes when I'm waiting for an e-mail or a text I get anxious. Recently I have been using the Do Not Disturb setting and leaving it another room. I do this and I feel less temptation to keep mindlessly checking my phone.
5) Declutter
If I have had a really off day at school I will go home to my apartment and I will deep clean. I promise I'm not a neat freak or anything but I always tend to feel way better and more focused when my space is clean.
These few things are what personally help me de-stress. I hope they help you as well.
