The week we have been dreading all semester has come: finals week.

Nearing the end of the semester, seats in the library and classrooms in the buildings fill up fast by stress-ridden college students as they begin to prepare for their final exams. Finals week is filled with coffee, sleepless nights and endless stress. But why is the week of finals always the most stressful week of the semester? One word: procrastination.

Procrastination gets the best of everyone. It's a nasty and stressful habit. Students tend to wait until the last minute to start studying and when they finally start to study, they find anything and everything to distract themselves. Whether it's their phone or their friends, students will do anything to keep from studying.

Here are five things that can help you get through finals week with less procrastination and stress and more sleep.

1. Turn off your phone

By turning off your phone, you are less likely to worry about the texts you're getting or the social media updates you'll be missing. You can survive an hour without social media.

2. Study alone

If you're at all like me and you like to talk to anyone that will listen, go into a room by yourself so you won't talk to anyone. Once you start a conversation, it's hard to stop.

3. No social media breaks

Students tend to reward themselves for studying with taking breaks to look at Twitter or Instagram or to Snapchat someone back. Don't do it. You'll tell yourself that you're only going to be on your phone for two minutes but that two minutes easily turns into ten which eventually turns into an hour.

4. Bring snacks with you

If you are planning on spending endless hours studying, bring snacks with you. You're going to get hungry and if you get up to leave to get food, you'll only put off studying even more. Leaving to get food is not a good idea. If you are a professional procrastinator, you'll find something else to do while you're gone.

5. Start studying two weeks before your exam

Don't wait until the day before to start studying for your final exam. Waiting until last minute to do anything means more stress. Cramming for a test is never a good idea. Especially a cumulative test such as a final. It's harder to retain the information that you are learning. You will also most likely being studying for a long period of time because of the semester of information you're trying to relearn.

By following some of these simple suggestions, your finals week should be a little less stressful and a little more relaxed.

Happy studying and good luck on your finals!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
