College is hard, its a complete academic change from highschool, even if you went to a highly ranked school. College is also a HUGE lifestyle change, it can become extremely challenging to juggle. Before you reach your breaking point i want you to know that there are A LOT of students who struggle and that its okay to ask for help! And really when it comes down to it you're paying thousands of dollars to attend these universities why not take full advantage of the resources the offer, and who would want to retake chemistry?
1. Disability Services.
The title may shy some away, but you do not need to have a physical disability to reach out for help. Disability services can help when you experience high levels of anxiety during exams or if you happen to struggle with ADHD. Commonly disability services will allow you to take the test outside of the classroom, and often with an extended time period.
2. The Writing Center.
Whether you struggle with grammar, content, research or any other aspect of writing the writing center can help you. Some writing centers have specific times for walk-ins others have you schedule an appointment with an instructor. Some teachers will even give you extra credit for reviewing your paper at the writing center.
3. The Tutoring Center.
The tutoring center offers services in nearly every subject matter that the university offers. Sometimes it’s beneficial to have home extra hands on help to better grasp that math problem or chemistry equation. Unusually you need to make an appointment to meet with an instructor for specific courses and subject matter.
4. Test Banks.
Some professors keep a test bank which they allow students to go through that is filled with previous test and course materials that can help you better prepare for the upcoming test. Also sometimes your universities library will have test banks that are open to students to use.
5. Office Hours.
Go to your professor’s office hours if you are struggling, or even if you’re not struggling, building that rapport with a professor is important. When a professor can tell that you are actually invested and trying to do well in the class, it can benefit you. Also by going to the office hours, it gives you one on one time with the professor to ask any needed questions or hands-on help.
