Spring semester is one of my favorite semesters because, towards the end, the weather gets nicer and the flowers begin to bloom. While the end of the semester starts to look and feel nicer, the beginning of the semester is still filled with cold days and the flu virus lingering around here and there.
While it is impossible to 100% prevent getting a cold, there are some things that can be done in order to avoid spending days on end in your bed while only being able to breathe out of one nostril (I've been there and done that).
Carry hand sanitizer in your backpack and in your car.
With the return of a new semester means a return on germs from around the whole country. Try to keep mini hand sanitizer bottles in your bag or even in your car for when you feel the need to use some!
Don't try to brave the cold! Wear a jacket if you need to.
Leaving a warm classroom to enter the tundra that is the cold outside could get you sick due to the drastic temperature change. Don't try to brave the cold and try to wear a jacket when you're leaving class or even work.
Increase your intake of vitamin C.
Drink lots of OJ! If you're not an orange juice fan, you could even find vitamins in the form of pills or powder to mix, like Emergen-C, into water.
If you're sick, try to stay home.
I know it may not always be easy to miss a day of work or class due to sickness but if you can, it is better to stay home and get rest for yourself and to avoid getting others into contact with whatever sickness you are dealing with in order to avoid it spreading more.
Don't share drinks during sick seasons.
While it may seem easy and second nature to share drinks with your roommate or bestie, it might be a better idea to keep away from that in case someone might be coming down with a sickness.
