For many of us, especially college students, going on a trip for Spring Break isn’t an option. Here are some ways to spend each day of Spring Break!
1. Movie Day
This is a day to either lie at home in comfy clothes and binge watch your favorite movies or go to the movie theatre and see that new movie you’ve been dying to see. I would rather take the day to relax in comfy clothes and lounge around the house. This is something that can cost anywhere from $0- $20 dollars. It all depends on if you already own the movies, if you pay for Netflix, if you will rent from Redbox, or buy a new movie from the store.
2. Family Day
This day could consist of immediate family,-- Mom, Dad, and your siblings-- or your Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Either way it would be a great time to visit all of your family and see how they are doing. Plus, I’m sure they would love to see and hear about all your wonderful accomplishments. This is also extremely important because you never know how long you will get with someone, so it’s important to make the effort to see and spend time with your family.
3. Zoo Trip
Okay, so it might be cold when you have Spring Break. In my opinion, this weather is way better than those hot, sweat-dripping summer days. Some people believe that the zoo is only open during the Summer, but this isn't true. In fact, the Detroit Zoo is only closed for three days a year. The Detroit Zoo's hours in the fall and winter are more limited, but they are only closed for two hours more than usual. Right now, their hours are 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M., and admission prices vary by age.
4. Shopping Trip
This is a no-brainer. Sometimes when we are at school, we are limited by our campus' location or even the selection of stores. During this spring break, visit your favorite mall or stores! This requires little to no money because you aren’t obligated to buy anything. Window shopping is one of my favorite things to do!
5. Friends Day
What’s better than ideas one through four? Seeing and catching up with your best friends! Hopefully, all of your spring breaks line up with one another if you are at different schools. Usually, my friends and I either take a trip to the mall, walk around our local stores, grab some lunch, or stay in and bake all day. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you are together.
Bonus: Adventure Day
If some of these don't sound pleasing to you, try this! You can make anything an adventure, but personally, I love to hike. Exploring animal life and geography is the funniest way to learn about your area. If there is still snow, go sledding. If it is beautiful out, learn a new sport. Go out and be active!
Hopefully, if your spring break isn't to a tropical destination, you can at least do one thing off of this list. It’s important to take a break from the books and have some fun. In the meantime, study hard and have fun after midterms!
