Let’s just get one thing straight: you are never, ever going to wake up one morning and say: “wow, I really want to go to the gym today” and if you do then I applaud you, my firend. However, for the normal people like me and the rest of humanity getting ourselves to the gym can be a very traumatic and sad experience. It isn't that you don’t want to! In fact, you would love to be super athletic and be as healthy as ever…but Netflix, though. But worry not, I have thought of five strategies to trick ourselves into actually wanting to go to the gym! Or if not wanting to, at least going.
1. Put on your activewear in the morning![]()
It doesn't matter if you aren't going to go to the gym right away, what matters is that you are already dressed for it! Let’s be real, are you really going to let such a cute outfit go to waste? Bonus: Wear a matching set to pump you up!
2. Caffeine
Caffeine is your best friend. You may take it on a cup of tea, with your protein shake or just go ahead and eat the coffee beans if that is what makes you happy! The point is that caffeine will give you lots of energy (DUH!) and your body will want to burn it off.
3. Set up a time
As simple as this may seem, a lot of times we forget to set aside a specific time for working out in our busy schedules. So just make sure that you make it a habit!
4. Get a gym buddy!
Find someone who will go to the gym with you and push you to work out. Specifically someone with a lot of motivation so that they can rub off on you and remind you to go to the gym. Just make sure that your work out buddy isn't lazier than you and me. After all, it is better to face the scary weight training room with a friend. Plus, buddy systems are cool!
5. Find motivation
Motivation is your best friend when it comes to reaching your goals. Find new workouts online, follow an athlete or an athletic model on Instagram, set short term and long term goals. Just make sure that you find something to do it for. Remind yourself why you are doing this and how far are you willing to go to reach your goals.
So there you go, kids! There is still hope for those of us who hate going to the gym but still want to be healthy. The most important thing is to do it for yourself. So keep going and don't stop until you get to be where you want to be.
