Although midterm week just ended for me, I figured that a lot of students have yet to take their exams or still have a few midterms left for next week. Midterm week is a thousand times more stressful than an average week of classes. We have presentations, essays, and if we're lucky...maybe we'll have two or three midterms piled up on one day! Nonetheless, here are a few ways to help you make it through your midterm week or even for a rough week full of assignments and tests.
1. Start a study group!
Gather a couple of classmates and friends to form a study group weeks before the test! I have recently joined a study group for one of my classes and I cannot stress how important it is to share your questions, concerns, and ideas with other classmates. This will also motivate you to study, revise notes, and feel more prepared for the exam. Generally, this study group will pull you away from the temptation to procrastinate! I mean, you really don't want to end up being this person by yourself:
2. Get Enough Sleep.
Limit your distractions and create restrictions for yourself. For example, plan to catch up on your favorite TV show every Friday after classes and work on your assignments little by little. You will be more prepared for your midterm with a good night's sleep!
3. Gather Questions to Make a Practice Test.
Utilize your past assignments and worksheets to create a "practice test." Use the old questions as a layout for the new ones and time yourself while taking the practice test. After taking the test, share your answers with your study group and learn from each other. These practices tests will help you get more familiar with college-testing and time management!
4. Bring Snacks.
Bring snacks with you to your studying and testing venue (some libraries let you bring snacks but if yours doesn't, feel free to step out and eat because you need to feed your brain!) Healthy snacks include granola bars, trail mix, crackers, and etc. This will help clear up your brain from distractions (such as hunger.) Without snacks/food, you won't be able to understand anything you are working on! Healthy snacks would work best..but junk food can work (sometimes) too.
5. Do something that makes you stay calm!
Find a way to calm down and de-stress! Taking nature walks, practicing yoga poses, or simply listening to one of your relaxing playlists can aid in helping you relax and be more confident in yourself for your midterms! It can be either watching the sunset, or playing your favorite game!
GOOD LUCK!
