Some movies are classics because of their soundtrack, a stand out character, or if there is a really good scene that is just down right unforgettable. The true sign of a good movie though is that one moment when everything comes together and a remarkable lesson is learned, a quote-able line is created, and we all get to share a smile or a laugh that makes us want to watch the scene over and over again. So here are a few scenes that reminded us all why we love the movies:
1. "The Sandlot:" There are almost too many good parts of "The Sandlot," but what is a movie if its not quotable? When Smalls first joins the team, Squints graces us with one of the most memorable burns of all time. It can be used in reference to annoying classmates all the way to evil cashiers. So thanks, Smalls.
2. "Good Will Hunting:" First of all, Matt Damon kills it in this movie, obviously. There are great monologues and heart warming moments between characters, but there is one scene that rises above the rest. After getting the girl's number ol' Will Hunting is sure to make it known to the jerk from the bar and an amazing confrontation ensues.
3. "ET:" The interaction between a boy and an alien is somehow both funny, endearing and poignant. Elliot, the main character, is a cute little kid, but it's his alien counterpart that delivers the line of our childhoods. Just when you think Elliot will never break the language barrier, ET utters those three famous words, "ET phone home".
4. "Dead Poet Society:" Robin Williams could have made an entire movie great all on his own, but in "Dead Poet Society" it's the students that tug at our heart strings. After having learned the poem "Oh Captain, My Captain" all the boys stand on their desks and recite the poem to Williams' character as a sign of respect. You can't beat a moment like that.
5. "Almost Famous:" A movie about a young boy following around a rock band is cool enough as it is. Of course there are some arguments among the characters and some obstacles they need to overcome, but it's the way they do it that makes this movie great. The whole band won't speak to each other, and then it happens... "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John plays. As any normal person would agree, not singing along to this song is nearly impossible, and as all the characters break out in song they forget their issues and stop fighting. If real life problems were solved this way, I think we would all be much better off.
Sure all these movies are great as a whole, but what would they be without such iconic scenes. These are the scenes and scenarios that make us wish our lives felt the movies, and that is why we love them.
