It amazes me how many different types of friendships one can have. With going to college in a completely different state than most of my friends, I’ve learned that there is a wide variety of different people and different relationships you can have with them.
1.Your Person
The model of this relationship is, of course, Meredith Grey and Christina Yang. Your person is someone whom you can tell anything to. They know every dirty little secret and celebrate every little achievement with you, even if the achievement is wearing jeans instead of sweats to class. Your person is someone you can’t imagine not having in your life, and quite honestly you don’t know how you got through life before you met her. She’s seen you at your lowest points and still accepts you. While you may not always be around each other, you know that no matter what, day or night, she’ll always have your back. To quote Grey’s Anatomy “she’s my person. If I murdered someone, she’s the person I’d call to help me drag the corpse across the living room floor.”
2.The Bestie
Your bestie is pretty similar to your person, but the big difference is that this is the friend you spend the most time with. She still knows the majority of your secrets, as they always come out in your late night talks, and accepts the good, bad, and weird that comes with spending so much time with one another. The other difference of a bestie from your person is that you and your bestie get into lots of stupid, meaningless fights. When you’re spending so much time with the same friend its only natural to start acting more like sisters and bicker.
3.Your Guys
Unlike your girlfriends, you can’t really clump your guy friends into one group. Let’s be honest some of your guy friends are super mature and then others are just straight up goof balls.
The Player
We all have that one friend who is such a player. He’s either the guy who just can’t keep a girl or isn’t ready to settle down. Either way, the player is the guy who’s always ready with a witty joke and down for pretty much anything. Behind the “macho guy” façade, you can see he’s big heart and are thankful that you were the lucky girl to become friends with him and not be hit on by him.
The Brother
This guy friend is the best kind of friend. He’s not as protective as an actual big brother, but he still really cares about you. He’s always there for an honest opinion and isn’t afraid to be open with you. Having a “brother” guy friend is awesome because he’s a great go to person with all questions related to the opposite sex.
The Kind of a Tool
The “Kind of a Tool” guy friend is the friend that you constantly wonder how you ended up being friends with. There is more teasing than nice moments in this type of friendship. And while the majority of the time the teasing is all in innocent fun, there are times you wish you could just punch him in the face when he says really stupid things. But at the end of the day, he’s a good friend to keep around, because those few nice moments are worth it.
4.Long-Distance Friends
Like I said before, college has changed how friendships work with a lot people. There’s some people from high school you no longer talk to; however, your group of long distance friends are the bomb. Not only have they stuck by you through drama filled high school, they make the effort to constantly keep in touch even when you’re miles away from one another. When you see one another after a long time apart, it’s an amazing feeling. Long distance friends come with a lot of long lasting memories and constant support despite the distance.
5.School Friends
I have always found the relationship between school friends amusing. These are people you have classes with. You sit with each other, complain about the professor, and maybe even talk about spending time with each other outside of class. Yet, the hanging outside of class with one another never actually happens. You may get a long really great, but the friendship begins and ends in the classroom.
